Finally decided on getting the K1 - lens questions

hey hey guys

I'm new to this forum, i recently got myself a ricoh GR II and totally loving it (for street and travel)
I finally decided to get a Pentax K1 , with 28-105 since it only costs 250 € when bought it in kit new with the K1 !

now i'm mainly a prime guy, so what primes would you recommend for me ? (not overly expensive)
I mainly do portret , landscape and street (but I am not going "undercover" on the streets with a K1 )

Does the 40mm XS work on K1 ? or the 77MM da 2.4 or do they vignette ?

thanks in advance

The DFA50mm macro isn't a bad starting point (or for that matter, an FA 50mm f1.4)
I'm assuming you meant the 70mm f2.4, and not the 77mm f1.8 (which is quite expensive, but totally worth it!). I used the DA70 a few times on film, and it was better than expected, but I'd still probably err towards a 50mm or FA77 so far as the k-1 is concerned.
If you were on APSC, I'd recommend the DA40 without question. On the k-1, it does suffer from more vignetting and corner issues than the more expensive FA43. I'd probably recommend the DA35 f2.4 or an A28 f2.8 (or previously mentioned 50mm's) rather than the DA40.

If you can locate a second hand FA43, jump on it. Failing that, and FA50 f1.4 or DFA 50mm f2.8.

Welcome to the group how did 'shootraw' not get claimed before this?
The K-1 is an amazing goal for many of us.. when the budget allows!

I think I will go with the 50 1.4 to start with (along the 28-105)
Later one I might get myself one of those sweet limiteds

FA 77 1.8 is a fantastic portrait lens on K-1.
I think you are confusing it with the DA 70 2.4 which is designed for crop sensors. I hear it works with some vignetting.

Rokinon 14/2.8 is a fun inexpensive landscape lens if you like to shoot wide.

Older film era lenses can be good too. Leitz require a mount change but my Elmarit 135/2.8 and Summicron 50/2 are really nice on the K-1.
Also m42 lenses like the Tacumars or russian optics like Helios are fun.

I think you'll be very happy with the FA50/1.4... just make sure to carry out AF fine adjustment so that it's spot on when focusing, and get a suitable hood - it makes a big difference when shooting at, or near, wide open

The 40 XS works very well.
My walk around is currently my FA 50 macro, but I also have the FA 50 1.7 for low light situations.

One of the Sigma 70 macro, Tamron 90 macro ro Penax 100 macro would be in my book essential, starting from today, I'd probably go with the Pentax, but I own the other two and they re all excellent lenses. Personally I so much prefer the 40 XS to the DA 35 2.4 I wouldn't recommend both, but if you want 35mm...

thanks for the welcomes

well i've been looking around a bit, the 50mm 1.7 is 350 € and the PENTAX F 50MM 1.7 (second hand ofc) would be around 220 €
Is the PENTAX F 50MM 1.7 better then the 1.4 ?

Since it looks like you are looking at the Normal range, if you can afford it, I would personally opt for the 43mm Limited. I think it has sublime rendering and is a beautiful lens.

The least expensive are the 2 plastic fantastic DAs...35 f2.4 and 50 f1.8, you could probably get these for less than most of the other lenses that have been mentioned.

The XS 40 and the DA 40ltd sit between those FLs if you only want one and can wait for the DFA 24ish(?) that's coming in 2017.

Congrats!

Both the DA 70mm and DA 40mm (to a greater extent) are in the same boat: they cover the full frame image circle, but at wider aperture settings, details near the corners and edges get smeared and distorted. I would thus recommend the FA 50mm or FA 77mm, as these are actual full frame lenses. A budget alternative would be the Rokinon 85mm F1.4, which is manual focus but excellent optically.

Another alternative would be to get the D FA 28-105mm. This is my favorite all-in-one lens as it delivers great image quality in a compact, weather sealing, fast-focusing, affordable package. Then you could add more nice primes over time

The DA 50mm isn't too hot on full frame- the edges and corners really struggle at wider settings, and the vignetting is more than you'd like. I'd recommend a manual focus M 50mm or A 50mm F1.7 if you're on a budget.

Yes, they are all good!

Adam, ive seen you comment many times about the DA 50mm,yet ive also seen many comment that they think its great in FF mode?My copy seems fine.

A while ago I saw you mention that a detailed report on all the DA lenses on the K1 was underway, hows that progressing?

This thread may help. A few posts in there is a link to the translated version of the review:

https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/190-pentax-k-1/334344-pentax-lenses-tests-k1.html

In this they cover the new DFA zooms and the FA limiteds and a few FA* zooms as well as the DA 40 and DA 70 limited lenses.

All the FF compatibility tests have been completed. Considering that (a) most shots aren't taken wide-open and (b) corner performance isn't always relevant when shooting at wide apertures, in daily shooting the DA 50mm could be fine for some users. But it's not something I'd recommend if it's going to be your only prime (the DA 35mm fares much better in that respect).
