15mm for K-1

I'm thinking about buying a 15mm lens for my K-1. The Irix seems attractive but what about Sigma's 15mm 2.8 AF?
Any advice?
Cheers, Ron

I remember when 28mm was considered wide angle..
Anyway, the Sigma 15mm is a fisheye, so it is very different: Sigma 15mm F2.8 EX DG Diagonal Fisheye Lens Reviews - Sigma Lenses - Pentax Lens Review Database
It renders photos, lines and perspective, quite differently from normal uwa lenses.

15mm options: Irix 15mm (two versions), Laowa 15mm macro, Pentax DFA 15-30mm
Fisheye options: Sigma 15mm FE, Zenitar 16mm, Peleng fisheye, and I think Samyang makes an FF fisheye (and also an APSC fisheye, and some for even smaller formats)

Hi I was looking for a while for something similar for my K-1.
I have number of primes ( all MF) 24mm and 28mm but I wanted something wider.
Placed an order for Rokinon/Samyang 14mm 2.8 MF in PKA mount.
I also have Samyang 85mm 1.4 , it is a bit heavy and big ( compared to FA 77 1.8 Limited) but can produce excellent results and I love the build quality.
Rokinon is coming from US , I hope it will arrive before Christmas.
kind regards
jack

I have the (somewhat rare) Sigma EX 15-30/3.5.
Not for a fan of filters...

If you would consider a manual focus lens, which with the enormous depth of field with these ultra wide angle lenses offer, focus is not really an issue.

That being the case... I can throughly recommend my “Mistress" (Pentax-A 15mm F3.5) as a suggestion for you.

+1

Funny how the Pentax A15/3.5 or K15/3.5 never get mentioned when folks are discussing an ultra wide angle lens in that focal length?

I've owed both the A & K versions and they are great options on FF and will be way better built than the current crop of plastic lenses.

I just got a Venus 15mm f/4 macro and it's lots of fun but fully manual (no aperture linkage etc.). It's a shift lens on APS-C and I hear it can shift still on FF but not as much without hitting the edge of the image circle and it's a little soft on edges of FF so I guess it depends a lot on what you intend to shoot and how. You certainly can't 'run and gun' with it because of no auto-anything. discussion in another forum post

Basically it's not optimized for being the best landscape lens out there so if you are only using it for that, probably not the right choice. But it does come with some added capabilities that are quite unique.

In anticipation of FF, I bought the Sigma 12-24 (original version with virtually no distortion) as a refurbished (new, old stock), and have only used the lens for testing (first copy was decentered, a common malady in this exotic lens). At 15mm, it is stellar - probably its peak IQ setting. I've decided against getting the K-1, so I'm getting close to offering it on the market. Although a bit slow, quite nice overall. Certainly a far-cry better than the rather odd Sigma 15-30 I once owned; those were rare for good reason.

It's a fisheye so it won't work for everything, but it's a very good lens. It's fast and can focus very close; not much of a bokeh lens but you can squeeze a little from it

Possibly something to do with price and availability? I've looked at these on the few occasions when one has popped up for sale, but I could never quite justify the price to myself, particularly when I shot APS-C, and I already had both the DA14 and 15. They might have to go, now, so I can start to think more seriously about it.

BTW, the Sigma 8-16 works tolerably well at the 16mm end, on 35FF.

Thanks for all the responses. It hasn't brought me any closer to a decision but, on the other hand, there's no rush.

That'll be a near relative of my "Mistress".

But these "Ladies" are not that expensive, average for an A series is $693 and for a K Series $715... showing on the forum here.
