Soft for that expensive a lens.
I have a feeling that the 28-105 may work better wide open than this. But then I don't have either lens to back that statement up.
I know what you mean as I don't have either lens, but the more I read about the two lenses ( Tamron 'Pentax' 24-70 and Pentax 28-105) I'm left with the impression that the 28-105 albeit cheaper, seems to get more positive reviews than the Tamron 24-70. It's something I'm wrestling with as I would like to get a full frame...either a k-1, Canon 5D3 or Nikon D 750.

As I can't test any 28-105 Pentax, or Tamron 24-70 or Canikon 24-70...I can only go by reviews . I would like to get a 24-70 but as they're significant money, I want to be sure it's top quality.

I see Pentax forum has just posted a review on the 24-70. It makes interesting reading, particularly the conclusion.

My conclusion was the same for edge performance. But then again many online reviews tell otherwise. I still trust my eyes though.

Pentax kit lenses have always been better than the competition. 28-105 can't be an exception. They did their homework on it by making the 16-85 already.
