F2.8 zoom lens

I'd like to get a fast lens what are the pros and cons between these two

Pentax smcP DA 50-135mm f2.8 ED (IF) SDM

or the

Sigma APO 70-200 f/2.8 EX AF Zoom Lens

Thanks Larry

my take:

both very good lens. The Sigma is a FF lens while the DA is...well... a DA, but that means it's lighter.

If you don't need the 200mm stretch. go for 50-135. It is substantially lighter, your neck will thank you.

My 70-200 ended up out of my travel bag a lot for that reason. It's big. I will only bring it for sport games and birds/zoo. I think if you can, you should get both.

can't really tell in comparison, I never used this sigma, but... 50-135 has many pros and a couple of cons, so I'd pick 50-135. main pros are build quality, really nice buttery bokeh throughout the range and colors, exceptionaly sharp, light & compact for range and aparture. cons are somewhat unexpected IQ drop in closer focusing ranges (this is actually only present at 100-135mm, only wide open, and if focused about 1-1,3m in front, at 1,5m or f/3,5 everything is just right ), not full frame if you need it.
difference between 135(*200)mm and 200(*300)mm is really minimal, it's like zooming to shoot a car at some distance, at 200mm it's from point to tail, and at 300mm it's maybe a 10-15cm cut-in from each side, so it's really not a big deal.
I'd go for pentax.
