Cold Feet Selling a Lens

Have you ever had cold feet selling a lens?
If so which one?

I recently put my FA* 85mm on sale to fund my DFA 24-70mm. However, I processed some wedding portraits using this lens over the weekend and I just could not bring myself to sell it. The in-focus areas are sharp while the background is buttery smooth and just makes the subject pop.
So I spoke to my wife and she luckily was real nice and let me keep both lenses
Of course now I get no father's day, birthday or Christmas gifts for 2017.

Yes, my K28 3.5. I thought I would sell it when I purchased a FA31 Limited, but I just...can't...do...it!

Hahaha!
Well, I'm a hoarder, but then I've got no lens worth more than about 200 Euros... that makes it easier.

Those two lenses have different purposes, plus one is a prime and the other is a zoom... I think you made the right choice

if she was that understanding...you'll still get gifts...c'mon you know you will

or you can do what we are going to do after a year of wretched, unrelenting excess...move some dollars around and PROMISE not to do it all again

I rarely use my DA 40mm Limited and FA 28mm because of my fine FA 35mm f2.0. I put them on my "sell" list a year ago but I haven't actually made a move toward selling them and may never.

I'm the same as you regarding my DA 40mm limited -- despite having a FA 43mm, I still love the compactness of the DA 40mm, fast focusing, and sharp images I get from the ultimate pancake lens. I also have trouble selling my smc-F 28mm because it's so sharp. I'll add to this list my Sigma AF 24mm f/2.8 Super-wide II -- a cult and sentimental favorite of mine. Someday I may part with all of these but as long as I can still afford to hold onto them (and find myself using them), I'll keep them around.

I sold my FA 43 because I just wasn't using it much and put the money towards a new IMAC 27" retina computer. No regrets here....... I figure if I want one again that bad I'll buy it.

That's how i feel about selling my K28mm f2.0 a few years ago :'(
I would LOVE to get it back, but it is selling for about 300 dollars more than what I sold it for a few years back

I sold a Kiron 28mm f2.0 that I still miss. The bokeh on that lens was unusual and exceptional.

yes - when I sold my 77 Limited. It was silver, MIJ with a low serial number, and I had only taken about 100 photos with it. It was more like a collectible - almost like I was afraid to take it out... But I had so much gear, I had to do the right thing and downsize while things were still valuable. I'll probably feel bad about selling the 77 forever.

I'm thinking of selling my Rokinon 14/2.8 now that I have the Pentax 15-30. The 14 will hardly ever get used. Then I think that the lens won't sell for that much; maybe I'll keep it as a compact ultrawide when I don't have room to carry the massive 15-30.

Similarly, my Pentax 55-300 gets little use because I have a Sigma 50-500. On the other hand, the 55-300 is small enough to pack for those times when I might unexpectedly need telephoto.

I haven't made any selling regrets but I haven't sold much. Two 18-55 lenses (1 sold with my K-r body, another swapped for a Sears 135mm) were inexpensive sales of lenses that served no purpose for me. The Sears 135mm was sharp and a joy to manually focus though I sold it when I upgraded to the optically superior DFA 100 WR macro.

Looking at my current collection, the 16-50 and Tamron 10-24 are possible sales since I upgraded to the full frame K-1. I'm still not sure if I'll keep my K-5 as a second body, maybe with an IR conversion, or sell it.
