DA 18-250mm Problem

My Pentax DA 18-250mm zoom lens has decided it doesn't want to zoom anymore. I put it on the camera, unlocked the transport lock and tried to zoom in on something. The focusing ring adjusts itself as before but the lens tubes do not extend out at all like they did before.

My lens has exhibited quite a bit of zoom creep and seems to do so more easily as time has gone on. I've had the lens for 6 months. What's the best process to go through for getting the lens fixed, local camera shop or sending back to Pentax USA?

Thanks

If you bought from a local shop and they are willing to exchange it for a working unit I would go that route. However that probably will not be the case as such I would send it to Pentax directly for an in-warranty repair.

Thanks for the reply. I will probably send it in to Pentax USA. I wonder if my local Ritz/Wolf Camera will help with this even though I didn't buy it from them... Anyone have any other helpful suggestions?

Your local ritz/wolf will probably quote you a $100+ price to fix it. I'd just work with Pentax directly.

I may send mine in to Denver when I get back from Colorado next week because of the same issue. Too bad the engineers didn't think of putting a simple o-ring on the zoom ring to dampen it, huh.
