I returned back IRIX 15 Fireflay last week. And I am waiting for a new piece. I hope it will be better.

left side was terrible on f2,4 - f5,6

on f11 was IRIX super sharp from corner to corner

f11, very nice to backlight

I changed my lens acquisition strategy and currently an UWA lens is not one of my priorities anymore. But I think if the need for an UWA should arise again, I might actually consider giving them another chance. As I said before, I really hope they will be able to sort out their QC and service issues because they've created an awesome lens. The pictures I've seen from good copies are stunning. And the lens feels and looks very well built and has some clever features to it.

I felt the need to say that because I don't want to stop anyone from buying their lenses. Just be aware that you might get a decentered copy. And make sure you buy it at a store where return and exchange isn't as complicated. I think I just had some really bad luck and the way they handled my complaints was far from professional. But that can (and hopefully will) change.

Well, just ordered myself a copy (Firefly) for interior shoots. Gotta say, this spooks me a little.

Lens just arrived and, as I feared, it's pretty badly decentered. Here we go...

Fortunately, the Samyang 14mm + good lens profile is a proven winner for even architectural shots.

I'm doing some interior test shots at f/13 and it's actually not bad. It's only wide open that it's obvious.

For my usage, it might be sufficient. Distortion is blessedly low, almost imperceptible.

I repeated the test today with the second piece of IRIX, unbelievable:

picture through window from work with CPL NiSi 95mm MC, at f2,4, left and right side from the corners at 1:1

f2,4 vs f11, perfect, vigneting on f2,4 is still visible of course...

high resolution at f2,4

Do not be afraid to return IRIX and want a second piece :-)

Your second copy is definitely a good one. Did you buy it directly from Irix? If so how was your experience with customer service?

This is of course up to you but I wouldn't want a new lens that is limited to a use at f/8 or higher. The day might come where you would like to use it for a different purpose to take a picture with a wider aperture. If it was mine I would get it replaced until you get a good copy.

Hi all,

I got the new copy of IRIX 15mm and maybe it's a little bit better, but still decentered.

Maybe the only difference is that the infinity is correctly set, so at infinity it's seems to be ok.

I can't always see the problem, only on dark photos, and if I focus on something in the foreground at 3 meters, sometimes the right side of the background is blurry, and the left side is still sharp.

At f4.5 it is razor sharp anyway, so I think I won't return it again, but I'll have to use a tripod for low light photos.

It's also usable for night photography handheld at 2.4 but I have to be avare of this blurryness.

alpheios: I bought IRIX from Slovak local eshop megafoto.sk, 428euro (lens return was accepted within 15 days without giving any reason under our law to buy it on the internet).
