55-300 PLM or non-PLM version to K-1? Vignetting etc?

Hi,

I'm plan to get 55-300 to my K-1. Why, cause it is small enough to carry around with another lenses I got. I know there is 60-250 and 70-200 options, but way too heavy. I know that there is vignetting with those 55-300:s, but I'm ready to PP and crop that away (Rather than carrying way more extra weight all the time).

I know that PLM has advances compared to non-PLM (focus etc.) But from viewpoint of K-1 is there difference with vignetting etc? I just try to find out that there isn't any case that older is vignetting less or something like that. If not, I think PLM is way to go. Anyone tested? I know that there is threads about PLM and K-1 already, but all of them focus more to the focusing itself and is PLM or non PLM version working with their K-1. None of them seems not to compare which is better for K-1.

The non-PLM seems to work pretty well for me on the K-1. However, although I rate it highly on APS-C, and it almost covers FF, it's not a lens I would buy specifically for the K-1. It's a considerable compromise. If size is so important to you though, perhaps you'll be willing to put up with its shortcomings.

I have not tried the PLM version.

The PLM version has enhanced optics which makes it a better lens for both AF speed and optical performance on an APS-C body. However, I don't know how it performs on 24x36 but you should be just fine in the APS-C mode on the K1.

I think I rather use FF mode and crop. But still unsure which one has more vignetting, or is there any difference..

I thought my Sigma 70-300 was pretty bad on APS-c and awful on the K-1. I put it on once, just to try it, but never again. But it does cover the full frame. ON my 6 MP *ist, I quite liked the lens. It hasn't kept up with more demanding sensors.

Thanks for the info, I would have imagined the quality would be barely passable. In a pinch though, these lenses would be useful being fairly cheap and easy to find.

I take mine out once a year, just cause I can.
