DA 55-300 PLM WR is the winner in Digital Camera World

The March 2017 issue of Digital Camera World declared the lens the winner among 8 budget telephoto zoom lenses tested from all the major players.

Not a surprise really. If you aren't going to put a tele-converter on it this lens holds it's own with any lens out there. ( I don't own the lens, just an observation from posted images.)

I don't own it either but I agree with Norm that posted images show it to be very capable.

I have one ;and in the summer time it very seldom comes off especially in Quad season. I love the IQ and size and weight is right on. I also carry my 1.4 X TC for occasional long shots and the combo works fine.

Woops sorry I have the regular not the PLM missed that in the first go around

I bought it right after the Version 1.30 firmware upgrade for the K-3 was released. Best lens for the money I ever bought. autofocus is quiet and almost instantaneously quick with no hunting. I did some rough comparisons at 200 mm to my DA* 200 and the PLM held its own against the much more expensive DA* 200 regarding image quality. I would expect that the DA* 200 would be better in less bright daylight conditions. Autofocus was no comparison, the newer PLM motor clearly outperforms the older SDM motor. It won't replace the DA* 200 since there will be times I need F2.8 speed but now what to do with my year old HD DA 55-300 which has no use for me with the PLM in the bag.

How do you feel the PLM pairs up with the 1.4 TC? I bought the TC mainly for use with the DA*200 and DFA 100 Macro WR lenses. I have not yet tried it with my 55-300 PLM mainly because I have not had opportunities in good lighting conditions and feedback that I have seen on this forum, although not much, was not favorable.
