My new (to me) Tammy 28-75

I got it today and I've already gone outside to play with it some. Here are some of the first shots.

I'm already liking this lens a lot.

The pic's look good Heather,

Did you notice that the owner of the car in the top photo left their keys in the ignition
It looks like a nice car, I imagine that if you sold it on that person you'd be able to buy several expensive lenses

It would sure teach them a lesson, to not leave their keys in the car when Heather wants another lens

Nice shots Heather. I think you'll love this lens - I did when I had it. Very versatile and great sharpness/colors.
Congrats on your new toy, err, lens.

FYI--That's MY car and it was in motion, as my husband was driving and I was riding.

It's an 03 Toyota Matrix and no, I definitely don't want to sell it anytime soon as I would be stuck with driving either a 2000 Nissan Frontier truck or a beat-up 95 Toyota Corolla that needs some work.

What I will do to finance another lens purchase has it's limits, although I would sell the Corolla, if DH would let me. I might get enough out of it to finance another lens or body

I am glad that you like the lens Heather, it is a good lens and it looks like it has found a good home. I still haven't really had a chance to get out with the sigma 17-70 yet but from the few shots i have taken I like the feel of it on the camera. Seems its a better fit for me than the Tamron

The store where I ordered called me up today and said that my 28-75 is ready for my perusal. Do you guys have any tips on how to check if I have a good copy of the lens? How to check for sharpness, etc?

thanks!

iamweasel, I'd highly recommend the 'dandelion test' :-)

Heather,

Did you find the Tammy 28-75 wide enough for your needs? I am thinking of getting this (if my financial situation allows !!!). I am thinking of replacing a couple of my lenses (Pentax 43mm limited and Pentax-M 50mm) with this lens. The only thing concerned is the lack of wide-end of this lens in my K20D (28mm = 42mm which is not really a wide).

I also got a Tamron 17-50 from my friend. But I am less than impressed by its performance (may be my copy is not good). I need to test it more.

My grand plan is to replace the Tammy 17-50, Pentax 43mm and Pentax-M 50mm with Sigma 10-20 and Tammy 28-75 (I am not sure whether it is good plan or not !!!)

We have the same situation here.. But I still got up to December to think.. so I might wait @ the DA 17-70mm performance..

Tammy 25-75 or Sigma 24-70

I've seen so many great shots and read everyones praise of the Tammy 25-75 that I am seriously considering trading my Sigma 24-70 in for either the Tammy or Pentax version of the 25-75. From checking the specs the Tammy is a lot lighter than the Sigma, which would literally be a weight off my shoulder.

My question is this, is it worth making the trade?

The Tammy is plenty wide in most situations for me. By the end of the month, though, I will have a DA12-24 for when I do need something wider.

As for your plan, I do have some ideas.
--If you can handle the gap in focal length between the 20 of the 10-20 and the 28 of the 28-75, then the 10-20 should be fine, if you'd rather not shell out the money for the DA12-24. If not, then I would suggest continuing to save to the 12-24. I don't know if you've seen some of the images from this lens that have been posted lately, but they're amazing.
--If I were you, I would consider hanging on to either the 43 or 50, since both are faster than the 28-75 and would be beneficial for really low light situations.

HTH,
Heather

Here are a first few shots from the tammy. I find it quite soft. What do you think?

75mm f/2.8 1/180

28mm f/2.8 1/45

74mm f/4.5 1/8

28mm f/4 1/90

28mm f/2.8 1/90

28mm f/2.8 1/45

28mm f/2.8 1/1000
