Kiron 105mm F2.8 Macro vs. Voigtlander Lanthar 125mm F2.5

This is a quick test of the two lenses' chromatic aberration properties at two F-stops. Unfortunately, I wasn't entirely thorough and let the camera vary the ISO between shots, and I didn't test the Lanthar wide open at F2.4.

I took two shots (F2.8, F9.5) of a scene with the Kiron, and then moved the tripod back a bit, recomposed, and then took two shots (F2.8, F9.5) with the Voigtlander Lanthar. The move allowed for nearly identical image sizes.

Both lenses are manual focus. Crops are 100% and sharpened on export, otherwise no post-processing.

Gavin's Lens Tests

Conclusion (based on my copies): The Voigtlander has less CA than the 25-year old Kiron (Vivitar Series 1).
Cannot conclude from this test which lens has better bokeh, or edge/center resolution. At any rate, I like'em both!

Based on these photos the Voigtlander is much sharper.
You didn't mention a tripod, did you use one?

The thread did not reveal bokeh comparison.

Again, you make a case that Voigtlander 125mm macro is over-rated.

A little offtopic: did anyone notice that the Voigtlander's diaphragm closes when you are focusing towards 1:1? And does the Kiron/Vivitar/Rikenon P/Lester P. Dine/Soligor or whatever it's called the same? Just something I wanted to know as I found the stopping down of the Voigtlander rather odd.
