K lenses : What can we expect from the CP+ ?

... will there be some new lenses, finally ?
Soon a year that the K-1 is out, pentax does not make any effort and is not even able to release even a modern 50mm. How long will we wait to have a few fixed focal lengths ?
Something that is less than 2 kilos, costs less than 1500 or 1600 dollars/euros,, which can be easily worn, adapted to modern sensors ....
It's time to wake up, Pentax !

I don't think that wild and inaccurate assertions help anybody - there is a road map, but yes, it would be nice to see a few of the lenses on it appearing

Face it, he is correct.
After a couple years of no shows, Pentax needs a huge bump - and yes they probably show something quite soon.

What a lame asking that is. I hope they focus on the important stuff that is really missing, not the areas where we already have choice.

Grandpa lenses like a 50mm they should skip in whatever form or version.

A good small 24/2.8 is what is needed.

We had a huge bump when they announced the FF product line. The K-1 is not even a year old...

I probably would not have phrased it in such a strong phrase, but I couldn't agree more on the content.

Looking at myself, who has been an intensive user of 50mm lenses throughout my film aera, I'm amazed how rarely I use the FA50/1.4 nowadays - and this is not because the FA50 is a little bit outdated. I would say that FA 43/1.9 Limited, FA 50/1.4 and DA* 55/1.4 and last but not least, little plastic-fantastic DA 50/1.8 are more than enough to cover the range of what we call "normal lens".

I do agree that a wide, compact DFA prime would be nice.

On the other hand, looking at the totally insane prices of used (F)A* 200/4.0 Macros, I wonder if a longer macro is something that the community would appreciate.

There is a good economic reason why neither Canon nor Nikon have any more modern or better (mostly worse) 50mm lenses these days. If that was a big thing in demand there would be tons of brandnew options.
Primes as such are niche already today.

With regards to the long macro I think yes, this clearly is a gap, but an even more specialty one with even fewer potential buyers.

Between the 100mm macro with teleconverter and extenstion tubes and the DA*300mm with teleconverter and extension tubes I see very little hard requirement for a broad audience to do macros. It's similar to micro niche lenses such as T/S, 500/4 and such.

I hope they don't waste time on a new 200mm non macro prime either (which was hinted at in rumours).

Anything wideangle (need not be fast) 14-24mm and short fast teles 85-135mm is where there are real gaps to fill in prime land.

Most interesting is which of the 50% fractions they will make happy: The expensive/clunky/fast people or the cheap/portable/average speed people. As the surveys suggested, both camps are about equal size.

Troll topic if there one and asking for 50mm where we already have FA50, DA50, DFA50, FA43, DA*55 in the range... 5 lenses to cover the focal length are not enough? The DFA50 isn't sharp enough for you? The FA43 isn't small enough and doesn't offer a different enough rendering, DA50 isn't cheap enough? DA*55 isn't up to snuff for portrait? Come on.

I agree that some new lenses would be welcome, and I'am sure they will come. After all recently we got 16-85, 20-40, 24-70, 15-30, 55-300, 70-200, 150-450. That's far from bad, and from roadmap we are going to get quite a few interresting primes this year. No need to worry.

And it would make sense to concentrate where there potential hole in the lineup anyway then... On prime that could something around 24mm and large apperture, something for portraiture in the 85-135mm range... In zooms that could be a 24-105 f/4 transtandard or an affordable FF tele zoom like a 70-300.

Anyway, this isn't like we can't make great photos with what we have already...

DA55-300

F135

FA77 limited

DA35 limited

FA31

DA21

DA15 limited

Which new K-mount lens can we expect to see at CP+? An HD Pentax-D FA 28-300mm f/3.5-6.3ED SDM WR most probably.

i don't want a new 50mm, guys !
I was talking about the 50mm, because I wanted to illustrate what's becoming more simple, more standard on the market that pentax is not even able to go out.
Sure, I would like a 20, a 24 or a 28mm, a 85mm, a 135mm ... there are many "holes" in the K mount, or lenses that would need to be modernized, with new coatings and new motors technology...
But nothing...nothing, nothing, and nothing.

If that is the only announced lens I don't want to be near this place until October.

That would be interesting. Idiots in forums would jump off cliffs and we'd get kids threatening the world with "if they don't do x then I will do y" nonsense.
But I bet that lens would sell very, very well if it does deliver similarly well to what other recent Pentax lenses have delivered. WR travel superzooms are highly attractive.

Was that just a joke or based on some hints/rumours?

All that's missing is a 35mm, a new 55-300, a 50mm, a 40mm (joke inside, don't kill me )

Mark II (w 'PLM' and other tune-ups) versions of some DA*'s like the 60-250, 50-135, 300mm and 560mm seem overdue. Probably retiring old SDM technology completely would be a good Mark II improvement for a lot of DA*'s.

That's what Canon or Nikon would do - eg the Nikon 70-200 2.8 lens has gone through a major revision every 5 or 6 years (V1, VII, E FL).

Well written and great photos to back it up!
The current lineup has a couple holes (wide angle primes), but is generally quite good, especially for APSC. I'm sure more lenses will be released. Look at the roadmap. Its probably those. If you want to speed up the process, buy a K-1 and tell your friends to buy Pentax stuff as well.
