Any Lens with the same specs as the Sigma 18-35?

I am really interested in the sigma 18-35 lens.
I am finding I need fast superior lens for shooting indoors.
The only reason I have not bought it yet is because of the focus issues.
Is there any other lens in the price range that I have not looked at?

I know the pentax version that was just released but that is too steep a price.

At this moment I am thinking of getting the lens. Test thoroughly and then return it if it has problems.
Is there any recommendation on thoroughly testing it?

Culture.

There is no similar (zoom) lens. May be the new KP's high ISO performance will help you.
I'am using a K-30 with the DA* 16-50 and a FGZ540 II flash or with Yongnou 560 off camera setup and it's enough for me.

That lens is pretty unique in the camera world. Pretty sure its the only f1.8 zoom for this format.
Sigma makes some other similar zooms, like for FF, but Im not sure they are available in Kmount.

Its such a shame. Making one hell of lens only to let it fall short due to focusing issues.

I have never had a problem with focusing on mine. I have heard that people who have focus issues can resolve them by using LV autofocus.

Yea just ask "Digitalis". He's a HUGE fan of the Sigma 18-35

Didn't he spend like $4,000 going through 6 copies until he found one he could deal with and then ended up dumping it anyway? Something close like that anyway.

I'm not sure what Pentax version you mean.

Sigma 18-35 f1.8
Pentax DA* 16-60 f2.8
Pentax DA Ltd 20-40 f2.8-4

These are the closest options. Of the two Pentax lenses I like the 20-40 the best so far but I have only had the 16-50 for a short time and my back is injured and slowing me down.

No mention of the Pentax 15- 30 F2.8 yet..... Could be a good alternative. The apertures isn't as big, but the high iso performance the K-3II and the K-30 even should make up for it.

Oops, just saw the OP's comment about price. Sorry.

Bump ISO with a slightly slower f2.8 lens and attack noise with something like Noise Ninja or Nik Collection DFine? High ISO induced noise is a lot easier to deal with than missed focus.

The 18-35 is also not small or light. I'd rather swing a Tamron or Sigma 17-50 on the end of a camera than the 18-35. Same with paying for them. Pentax 15-30 on a crop body is kind of a cool idea as you'd have the edges cropped by the nature of the setup, but, that's about where the cool part ends I think.

In the states right now Tamron 17-50's are selling for $300 brand new from good resellers. I find that to be a very hard deal to pass up and the only reason I haven't bought one is because I already have an 18-135 and can't justify it.

Just got my 20-40mm HD Limited for the upcoming KP as my go to main lens. It is a very nice walk around lens feels like having two great Limited primes in one! Very useful focal range and even though it is a 2.8 to 4.0 on the speed. It still does a fine job, already shot several things on the K3II and came away impressed.

I think you should seriously consider that option and at 650 from B&H the price wasn't too bad either. Just a thought.

Very nice lens but too big. Better look for a couple of primes.
