$20 shipped new - Tamron AF (IF)28-105mm F4-5.6

I picked this up off of our favorite auction site. I know it's not an award winner, but seems like a cost-effective replacement for the kit lens and possibly a decent overall walk around lens. Just couldn't pass up new in the box for $20. Anyone have any personal experience with this lens ?

I have this lens and mine certainly is NOT a dud; in fact, it's one of my favorites. A later model 179D, it stays more or less permanently attached to my K-x, although I do swap it around to my other bodies from time to time. It's quite bright and sharp as early digital era lenses go and it handles nicely, providing good balance on a lightweight body like the K-x. I paid $30 for mine about a year and a half ago, so you got an even better deal than I did. But you're right about it being one of those bargains you almost can't afford not to pick up.

Got my lens yesterday. From a condition perspective, it truly is as new. But my sample, which is the earlier 79D, just isn't sharp, anywhere.
It acquires focus fine, manual focus is fine. But the images themselves leave a lot to be desired. Out of 107 images, only the 2 below were useable

I have a pentax 28-200 that is not sharp anywhere, we could start a "not sharp anywhere" club. I actually have an FA-J 18-35 that's also too bad to sell in good ocnscience.

One issue to me is the barrel wobble, ironically worse at the short end (with the barrel retracted.)
