Lens line up at the cp+ 2017

So, is it just me or is anyone else gutted by the news of only a 50mm and 85mm prime at the opening day of the CP+? Is was really really hoping to see atleast a few mockups of some more interesting wide angle primes such as a 20mm. The k1 (being the best landscape camera in its class) is crying for such a lens in my opinion

Not gutted.....

Sure, I'd love Pentax to add lots of combinations of focal lengths, apertures, and price points but I understand that they are small company. Given the constraints on the enthusiast/pro photography market, in general, and Pentax/Ricoh, in particular, I'd rather they carefully manage their growth than over extend themselves and go bankrupt.

So, I'm a patient Pentaxian. And in the mean time, I'll use the various older wide angle lenses that I have and enjoy.

We can't have it all at the same time mate. There are 15-30 f/2.8 for UWA and some 3rd party manual lenses as well. On the Portrait side, we really lack modern prime lenses.

And being best in the landscape area means a "bigger" event, so may be Photokonia ?

Too soon to be "gutted" imo. Maybe they'll have some news on the new lenses and you'll have some info to sustain you until they actually come out.

It seems the older roadmaps compared to this one are slightly different - I heard someone say that the wide prime is going to have a * designation whereas before it didn't. If they are working through options, it means they are working on it and if it does turn out to be weather sealed, I'll be very happy about that.

But in the meantime, I'm just glad they are coming out with announcements that help fill out their line.

I doubt they wait a year and a half to introduce new wide angle primes.

Oh, next one is 2018. I am sorry for it, thought it will happen this year as well.

I really thought that releasing the k1 there would be a solid line up soon to follow. Yes, there is the trinity line up and old lenses but the market is so competitive now and I really thought Ricoh would have something so fantastic behind the lines to blow the other markets out of the water.

Tamron and Sigma, with their pace of releasing new high end lenses, are starting to change the competitive game. For someone who want those new lenses, is forced to use another brand of camera.

Anyway, I think of lenses as key to customer retention for a mount. Basically, the more good selling lenses a brand has in its portfolio, the more robust is the customer base. When the next camera models comes, the more lenses you have , the harder to switch. No wonder how Canon have their market share and keep it, given how large is their portfolio of lenses.

I wish it was as easy as bread making...
Jokes apart I think they are prioritizing their lens lineup... K-1 is a landscape camera and wide FL should have been first.. well for some. But there is plenty of picture taking happens in studios and these 2 fill that spot a 100%. A 50 WR was much needed as there wasn't one even in the old lineup (except the DA*55/1.4). And the 85, a very pleasant surprise, is something everyone craved for but nobody expected. Ricoh is is optimizing their available resources in their lens design department it seems. But 2 "Star" designated optics at once means they are seriously invested. Any "star" designated optics is a higher commitment to the lens performance. As a matter of fact I am nearly committed to buying their "star" designated optics only going forward. I know there are FA limiteds that are wonderful but the "star" designated optics are their top shelf lenses and I and happy to see more of them coming instead of rebadges. As a matter of fact I am struggling to pull the trigger on D-FA24-70 just because it is not a Pentax design. However Tamron 24-70 is the best lens even for other makers so Pentax is super optimizing their resources. Its not enough just to come out with competing products but it has sustain while doing it. And I can see that they are doing it right.

The performance and lens design of these two new lenses will be very interesting. The 85mm was long overdue, and to differentiate it from the 77mm, or to compete with the recent Sigma art 85mm, its performance will make for interesting testing/reading. Idem for the 50mm.
As someone else remarked, a fast 28mm would not go amiss either, although I will not need it personally.

Yes, but for those who have invested in the k1 for landscape (and there are many) need a prime wide, not a third party but a PENTAX!!!!!!!!

Good thing they are not bringing those primes out all at once - that is a list that would keep me poor for a very long time

An f4 20(ish) WR pancake that's razor sharp at f8 would be a killer lens for the system.
