After using less than3 weeks I sold my Pentax due to some change in my photography priorities. I kept my 24-70mm along with Pentax K-1.
Now I am seriously thinking about getting the 70-200mm again. However, I do have a few questions
1) Is there any comparisons I terms of image quality, sharpness, bokeh etc. for Pentax and other major 70-200mm lenses (Canon, Nikon, Sony and the Tamron). Since Sigma lens is old, I am not looking for any comparisons with Sigma. Tony Northup mentioned in one of the review that Pentax 70-200mm F2.8 is not up to the same level as other OEM 70-200 F2.8 Lenses. I do not know how much detailed review he had performed.
2) On my brief usage with the Pentax 70-200mm, I found it is very good in terms of image quality, but no comparisons, Pentax is heavy heavy. I am not worried about weight, but investing again in an ecosystem with uncertain future is something worries me. If I need to switch, this might be the right time- not sure.
3) Heard that Pentax started making Lenses (at least the * versions) in Japan. Can anyone confirm it?
Your responses are greatly appreciated
As Clackers said, it is made in Vietnam. The only review I know of for this lens by "mainstream" review sites is from ephotozine.
Pentax HD PENTAX-D FA* 70-200mm f/2.8 ED DC AW Review
I wouldn't worry about Pentax's future at this point. Ricoh seems to be continuing to support Pentax. Nikon is probably in worse shape at this point due to declining market share and lack of diversity of what they do. It is better in many ways to have a smaller, more nimble company when dealing with shifting situations in the photography market these days.
