Vivitar 135 f/2.8 close focusing - wide open performance

Any idea how this lens compares to our legendary K135/2.5 wide open. Some of the reviews (robin, hinman) praised it for macro work but at the same time mentioned it to be a slightly soft wide open.

It's available in local ebay and I am tempted to pick it up for close focusing ability but already have couple of 135 including K135.

Thanks

It seems to be well liked...

True, I read the reviews, thanks. Was mainly interested in knowing how well it compares with K135 wide open.

Here is your chance to do the comparison. If the Viv is the Series I 128/2.3, it won't come cheap, though if you don't like it, you can likely sell it for what you paid. If it is the more pedestrian Viv 128/2.8, it should come cheap and would also be easy to sell at little risk. If you are interested in a 135mm for close focus and want the performance of your K 135/2.5 without paying the price for the S1 Vivitar, a short extension tube might be your cheapest option.

BTW...Both Robin Parmar and Hin are very credible in regards to lens reviews.

I don't have the K135, but my M135 f3.5 is sharper wide open than my close focusing Vivitar 135 f2.8 is at 2.8 or f4.

For me a bigger difference is the color I get from them. The Pentax just has better colors. Though it obviously doesn't focus nearly as close...

And I haven't managed to sell the Vivitar, so it's doing something right...

Pedestrian is a poor choice of words when referring to either lens. I recant. Though, I would point out that the S1 lens is about twice the cost.

Here is a short "album" to look at:
Vivitar Close-focus 135mm F2.8 | Flickr
I think they were all taken wide open but I can't say for sure since the EXIF doesn't report the aperture.
It's been a while, and taken with a "lowly" K7 but I think this lens will stay in my gear.

Thanks all of you for responding. Turned out that seller gave incorrect description - when he sent me more pictures, found it to be Vivitar 90mm f2.8 1:1 macro so I just decided to pass it.
