if you are travelling or in light abundant environs the 55-300mm PLM represents a very good deal

Thanks again everyone for the answers. I ended up grabbing a tamron off craigslist yesterday for 600. Its pretty dang sharp and the autofocus nails it almost 100% of the time. Attaching a shot I took this morning, first is the full shot, second is cropped in.

And here's one ultra cropped in (sharpness doesn't seem to really reflect true sharpness in the others).

Tamron USA offers 6 years warranty on their lenses, hope the original owner prevented a receipt to you so you can take advantage of that (unless the lens is older than 6 years).

He did provide the receipt, but it's from amazon france. I have no idea how that will play into things.

The Tamron 70-200 is simply one of the best buys in K mount. Yes the DFA*70-200 is better but is it $1000 better? I will leave that for individuals to decide. For me it is not. I do not put my lenses through rough use so it works fine for me. WPRESTO I am pretty sure we purchased ours from the same seller. It is too bad the newer versions are not made in K mount. I had the latest Sigma 70-200 OS HSM in K mount and did not see any real difference in IQ. The Sigma focuses faster but it is 2.2kg heavier and longer. I ended up with the Tamron because of the size and weight. On the K-1 it is just a true joy to use. I realize now how much I miss a traditional 70-200 zoom that I grew with. I know the field of view of the 50-135 on ASP-C is similar but it just is not the same somehow. The Tamron 70-200 is one of my favorite lenses.

If you get a good copy it is a true gem.

FYI: The two later versions should have better AF* and somewhat better IQ, but they are about 30% heavier and closest focus is only at 70mm, so the maximum reproduction ratio isn't as good (1:3 in the K-mount version; 1:8 in the next version; 1:6.1 in the latest version). Considering the price gap (approximately $600 - $1100 - $1250) I'm not sure the newer versions are more desirable.

*Quicker and quieter, but reliability?
