Can't agree with Jatrax more about being careful about purchasing consumer zooms (or any lens, for that matter). Purchasing that one cheap lens results in many, many images that are not great, with poor contrast, flaring, lack of overall sharpness, but especially in the corners, etc., and inevitable buyers' remorse. I think it's worthwhile setting your sights on specific lens that reviews indicate is good, incl. good value for money, and saving for that.
