SMC Takumar ZEBRA 3.5/135?

Came over this lens in auction, tried to find any information on the Internet but all I can find is that there only was one zebra Takumar made, and thats the Auto-Takumar 1.8/55. This is the 3.5/135 lens. I have the ordinary black one and it is identical except the zebra silver stripes. Anyone know about this rare bird? A modified lens made after production?

I might be mistaken but on the third picture it looks like small markings of sandpaper or similar tools on the silver stripes, so I think the black paint was just removed on those parts.

Somebody had some fun polishing the high spots on the focus and aperture rings.

I am positive it is custom made. I have seen that with other takumar lenses. It is a cool touch.

The zebra takumars were AFAIK confined to the time before auto-aperture actuation was a thing. You either had to close down the aperture yourself or work a lever to prime the lens for you. This is a super-multi-coated version, one of the very last. Definitely an aftermarket "mod" but still cool-looking.

Don't pay extra for it - the lens has been defaced.

I thought that as well before I got it, that someone just took the black paint of,but the silver stripes are very clean and def. not brushed of.
