44/14 --- but as most of the lens selling occurred between 2011 and 2015. In the last few years, it's been 100/0. I don't buy lenses just to try them out -- I buy them to fit a specific need or to replace one lens that I'm not entirely satisfied with a better lens. I'm now at a point where I have all the lenses I need and upgrading to better lenses is not really possible, so in the future the ratio will likely be 0/0.

So are you discounting future lens improvements?

I have two groups of lenses: those I primarily collect; and those I use; so I have two ratings.

In the 'Collect' group, since 1999 I've turned them over more than 100% as I either decided I didn't want to collect them (M + A + Adaptall-2), bought a camera with lens attached that I later sold, or had a chance to obtain a better example of a lens I already owned. I collect SMC (K) lenses and a few specific M42 lenses and use them purposefully on film cameras and K-1 as my main hobby. I can't explain why K lenses - but who can explain collecting things anyway?

I still have my first lens, a K50/1.4 in 1977.

I'm fairly rational about lenses.* When it became inconvenient to store these lenses in shoe boxes and Domke bags I bought a small 4-Drawer Hitchcock chest at an estate sale and lined the drawers with toolbox mat. Threw a handful of dessicant bags in each drawer. That plan blew up when I got my K1000/8. Floor of my closet . . .

In the 'Use' group, since 2007 I've bought twelve and sold 4, so 3/1.

* Don't ask me about cameras.

In terms of K-mount APS-C, yes. First of all, it would be very hard to significantly improve, in terms of optics, the top DA glass. There are limits to how good a lens can be, and with lenses like the the DA 12-24, DA 35 Ltd and the DA* 300, it would be difficult to make them even slightly better without greatly increasing the cost.

Furthermore, Pentax has it's hands full with their FF and 645 lineups. With one possible exception, we're not likely to see any updates to the DA lineup any time soon. The one exception is a wide angle DA zoom. Will that be worth upgrading over the DA 12-24? Not for me. For I can't imagine, realistically, the new DA zoom being significantly better, optically, than the 12-24. In fact, I'm sure that, if (or when) it's released, there will be bitter complaints that it isn't any better than the zoom it replaces, yet it costs even more. What that new zoom will bring to the table (assuming Pentax ever gets around to releasing it) is WR, a focus motor, and (possibly) greater focal range. None of those extra features interest me in the least.

Virtually 100/0. I only sold 2 lenses (kit lenses I bought together with K-7) as far as I remember.

I bet Greg isn't, in any offhand way. But when you have built a kit of lenses that just deliver the goods and which you like for their very character, for the way they perform and render, in their intended areas of use, you may insist on a compelling reason for replacing them with something different. Deep familiarity with one's tools also has the benefit that you can anticipate the results you're likely to get in various situations, and nail the shot when the moment arrives.

Why would I, say, want to replace my green-ring DA35 Limited Macro with its successor, the HD version? I would gain a red ring instead of a green one, get slightly better coatings, a tad better bokeh, but would lose the smc version's impressive starbursts. In other words, while the HD DA35 Macro is gem of a lens in its own right, coming from the smc DA35 Macro, its improvements are basically negligible. I do have an eye on the DFA100 Macro WR, though, because it would give me more macro working distance, more lens compression, could double as a portrait telephoto, is more forgiving in rain, etc. (Even if I picked up a DFA100 Macro WR, I would still keep my smc DA35 Macro, no doubt.)

I'm proudly 1/0, which, BTW, equals infinity !!

From time-to-time, I've considered selling some of my lenses, but then I never do it.

I never sell anything but I do pass lenses on to my children, grandchildren and sibling I currently have 15 lenses and seven bodies. I use everything but do favor the Sigma 50 F.1 and the Sigma 70-200 F2.8

I always tell my wife what I'm going to sell when I buy a new lens, but then they never seem to get sold.

I always mean to, honest.

They come and go in batches. My over-all rate is probably 50/40, plus 5% disposed of because they were junk or just got lost in a box somewhere.

K mount is 1/0, (as is M42).
645 mount is 0/1 - part exchanged 7 of these for D-FA lenses and K-1.

Only have Pentax lenses, and when I eventually purchase a wide angle D-FA prime, I will have all I could possibly want.*

If common sense prevails and I part with my film cameras, then I can sell most of my film era lenses, although never the FA Ltds.**

Won't sell my DA lenses because I can't part with the K-3ii which needs them, (as do its siblings).

* Possibly said that every time I bought a new lens.

**Never was one for common sense though.

Haven't sold a single lens (put 1 up for auction but it never met my minimum bid)

I have transferred several to my daughter (starving university student) who is also a pentax user - at least on long term loan. But I don't tend to buy except for lenses I think I can't do without. I like having options so I've put together a pretty nice stable of lenses that give me a pretty good range of options.
There have been exceptions (lenses going for way less then I think they are worth) - but those are on my possible sales list (for profit?).

so far... 1/0

In my Pentax life (since 2007):
Acquired 16 (including two that came with camera purchases). All but one lens acquired since late 2013.
Gave away one.
On permanent loan one
Destroyed one.
Sold 3.
Current bag 10.

Doesn't count a teleconverter.

So I'd say 16/6. That is, I've parted with 37.5% of all the lenses I have acquired.

Like others I have been developing and improving my kit over recent years. It's never complete, but it is settling down. I'm moving to a stable state policy: I'm telling myself that 10 is the limit at one time - so from here on, one departure for every arrival.

I own:

Pentax:
A* 85mm 1.4
DA 40mm 2.8
M 50mm 2.0

Sigma:
8-16mm 4.5-5.6

Tamron Adaptall 2:
24mm 2.5 (01B)
135mm 2.5 (03B)
SP 180mm 2.5 (63B)
80-200mm 2.8 (30A)

I am using mostly 85 and 80-200mm lenses, but I do not even think about selling any of them
