Lens suggestions

I am absolutely loving having my K100D Super since the beginning of the year... as a beginner learning about aperture, focal length, white balance and shutter speed, WHEW! I now like to shoot without flash, whereas the first shots always were with flash or yellowed out under tungsten.

What are the recommendation as to the first, non kit lens for a novice like me to get?

smcP DA 50-200mm f/4-5.6 ED?

smcP DA 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 ED AL (IF)?

why does the first one only get 4x zoom versus the second one which specs at 14X?

Also, any recommendations for the best indoor / no flash lenses?

Zoom = Difference from Length A to B.

50*4=200mm = 4x

18*14=250mm = 14x

It's not a magnification number... which is something I got confused with early on myself.

Have you considered the 55-300 to round out your kit lens?

Indoor no flash lens? FA 50 f/1.4 IMO but I'm also a novice.

The second duplicates the 18-55 range of the lens you already have. So if you got that, it would be to *replace* the kit lens, not supplement it.

Because 200/50 = 4 and 250/18 = 14? Not sure what you are trying to ask. The first lens was built to just cover the telephoto range, the second to cover everything from wide to telephoto. Covering that big a range makes it 14X. it also makes it bigger, heavier, and more expensive - and some would say, not as good in image quality (while others argue that it in fact is better).

Firs,t decide based on your existing lens what focal length you tend to like. The FA50/1.4 is the obvious choice if you like that focal length. I find it a bit long and prefer the the DA40.
