70-210mm constant aperture F4

Are there any other constant aperture AF third party lenses other than the Tokina AF 7-210mm f/4.5 or f/4 available? It seems that Pentax has not ever produced any.

SMC Pentax-FA* 80-200mm F2.8 ED [IF] Reviews - FA Zoom Lenses - Pentax Lens Reviews & Lens Database

I did have a longer reply, but I had originally missed the AF part of your request.

No F4, just this monster. There's an f4 in the KA mount, but no AF there.

Pentax A 70-210 F4, there also exists FA version of this lens. I own the A version.

The Pentaxforums lens source shows that the F and FA versions are 4-5.6 not constant aperture. Am I missing something? I would like a constant aperture zoom at f/4 or f/4.5

Why not just shoot the DA *50-135 on a crop camera? Size will be roughly the same as a 70-200 f4 on full frame and performance at least as good. Plus the cost is less than for all the 70-200 f4 lenses I could find except for the Canon without IS.

No -- MF A version only -- no AF F or FA version.

Sorry, my bad. Confused it with the variable aperture lens with a similar focal length.

Understood. It might also be a case of "wishful thinking", too -- I know that ~I~ tend to prefer constant aperture zooms, given the choice (which, nowadays, is not really all that often).

[As an aside, though, the F 70-210/4-5.6 is quite a good li'l zoom, quite sharp and very with a very quick AF action, although I prefer using the A 70-210/4 myself.]

The DA* 60-250/4 can be modified to cover the fullframe image circle.

There is the D FA* 70-200 F2.8...

There is no F4 version of that focal length. There are however Tamron and Sigma 70-200 F2.8 lenses. The Tamron can even be bought new.

And quite cheaply given the commendable performance of the lens. Plus, mine can be set to constant f/4 (or any other value) at the flick of a thumb.

It really is a shame. You simply can't compare a Tamron 70-200 f/2.8 with the quiet, smooth quality and build of a Canon 70-200 f/4 L lens - at roughly half the size. (I own the 200 f/2.8 L that is often compared to the slightly smaller zoom; this is the best lens I own not only in IQ, but in adding up all the other factors related to AF.)

In this age of sensors yielding virtually the same quality of image whether they are set at ISO 100 or 400, Pentax missed an opportunity to claim an untapped market by going large not only with the K-1, but the lenses offered. I've shot FF in Canon, but the 5D was much easier to handle than the K-1. When I needed long, the 200L would take a 1.4x TC and suffer nearly no IQ loss. If Pentax went a bit smaller and offered constant aperture zooms at f/3.5 or 4, they'd have at least one more adopter (me). As it stands, I'll just stick with the K-3 and be satisfied with the smaller format. I strongly prefer Pentax overall, but the situation with the longer lenses and heavy FF zooms offerings are not conducive to my shooting needs.

Well....the Tamron is infinitely better for attaching to a Pentax. The Canon totally fails at that.

But I agree, Pentax (or anyone) has never built an f/4 version of the same focal length, I guess once the f/2.8 is out, they move their limited resources on to other focal lengths rather than double up.

I found for $69 a Tokina AF 70-210mm f/4.5 I think it is a good deal. I like internal focusing and constant aperture zooms. D FA* 70-200 F2.8 is way outside my badget. And even if I was rich it is bigger and too heavy to carry around. Thank you all for the replies.
