Used to have:
Schneider Kreuznach Tele-Xenar 360 preset,

Isco Gottingen Westanar 1:4.5 150mm M42

Isco Gottingen Tele Westenar 1:3.5, 135 M42,

Novoflex 600mm with shoulder stock,

All gone now...

A Vivitar branded Komine made K mount zoom is as 'exotic' as it gets. oh just remembered a Tokina AT-X 840 80-400 in Pentax mount - I had the type I (which broke an internal zoom thingy and sold for parts) and now I have the type II with the tripod mount and slightly improved design. Here is the type I and an example pic...

Wow, nice question which actually made me realize I don't use some of these nearly enough.

- Revuenon 55mm/f1.2
- Arax 80mm/f2.8 (Pentacon6 mount) that goes on a tilt-adapter
- A few Lensbaby's
- a few more lenses with a Pentacon6 mount which I never use

Thus effectively retrofitting your DSLR with a leaf shutter. Does the DSLR in question offer a push-open push-closed bulb mode? Push open, fire the Kodak shutter, push closed at leisure. And dare I ask about flash sync?

I usually use the Kodak on my Samsung GX-10 (K10D clone) because it gives a pleasantly film-like look with the CCD sensor. The easiest way to shoot using the leaf shutter is to simply set the DSLR to an exposure of ten seconds or so, wait a moment for the mirror vibration to settle, then trigger the leaf shutter while the focal plane shutter is still open. Using a remote control cord with the DSLR set to B mode would be a more sophisticated solution. There is a Kodak ASA type flash trigger post that you can see at about the 10 o'clock position in the photo, but I've never bothered to buy an adaptor cable to try it. The leaf shutter only goes to 1/200, so it doesn't offer any fun high speed flash sync tricks.

I haven't used the Kodak for a while, so I think I'll be taking it out with me this afternoon if the rain holds off.

The least common is the Vivitar 28mm f/2.
Which one? 22xxxxxx serial or 28xxxxxx serial? I have one of the 22 (Kiron) models. It has the long flange and I've never gotten around to cutting it...

I have a few Soviet M42 lenses. Do those count as "exotic"?

I wouldn't say exotic, just harder to find these days, my Voigtlander Nokton 58mm f1.4 fits the bill. My Nikkor 105mm f2.5 isn't exotic at all, but with it being converted to K mount it makes it unusual to say the least.

Exotic: Not local -
Merriam Webster
exotic
1
: introduced from another country : not native to the place where found exotic plants
2
archaic : foreign, alien
3
: strikingly, excitingly, or mysteriously different or unusual exotic flavors

So any non native example would fit. ie outside of Pentax brand I would presume especially considering the old camera manuals used to advise against use of any third party lens as it was not to spec. Hope that helps.

This Isco-Göttingen Westromat 35mm f/2.8 (aka Schneider-Kreuznach's 1960-era plastic-fantastic)

It was exotic enough to catch the mirror on my Spotmatic, but my K-01 loves it.

Pentax is native to Japan, so I guess every piece of camera equipment I own made outside of the US is technically exotic to someone like me who lives in the US

I can only say i have one exotic lens, a battered up silver 13 blade Helio 44, the one with 00xxxxx serial number, and maybe the tair 3 grand prix edition.

both sit on a shelf and collect dust next to my takumars. to be honest i used the helios only on my old k100d, and the tair for maybe 20 pics on my k3 (mostly crappy moon shots)

to further the thought, would it only be then considered exotic if deep-fried in something other than vegetable/canola/peanut oil?

Yes I think language and the meaning of original words gets skewed with time. There are many many examples pre-internet and post-internet.

Maybe 'rare' or 'unusual' lenses would have been more apt for the thread then we could include Pentax ones too.
