Wow, you're really putting me to the test!

The first one does not look exactly like any seen before. Is it a k-mount? If so, it's now designated:
K12 : Vivitar / 28MM 1:2.8 / AUTO WIDE ANGLE / NO. 28xxxxxx / Ø49MM [Komine]

If its f/2.8 and KA, the second looks like:
K09 : Vivitar / 28MM 1:2.8 / MC / WIDE ANGLE / Ø49MM [Cosina]

(Getting a shot of the barrel would clear this up, as the markings are particularly colourful on this Cosina variant.)

The last is a nice looking copy of:
M06 : Vivitar / 28MM 1:2.5 / AUTO WIDE-ANGLE / No. 22xxxxxx / Ø62MM [Kiron]

I'm just an interested lurker on this thread.

Is this one of the desirable K01's you speak of?

I think it is. One just sold over the weekend for $159 so this is not that much of a bargain after the discount. The seller just priced the lens to reduce to the price he saw the previous one finish.

That said, $159 seems like a pretty healthy price no? The power of this thread driving up the auction cost.

Yes, this forum does seem to be driving up the price. I'd say $200 is a lot to ask, even for such a good lens. My intention with this thread was not to drive up prices, but I suppose that is somewhat inevitable.

I also must say the whole "cashback" thing is actually a tax on non-US citizens, at least when it is used to justify higher prices on items. But that gets us dangerously close to another thread that went all ballistic. Basically, I believe we are all one big photographic community and don't need to privilege certain folk over others.

To be clear, the price of this lens is not $159 it is $200. Whether people (might) get certain discounts should not be a factor.

I just picked up a K1 (Komine 28mm F2 CF) in excellent condition!

In the link below, that lens is shown by pictures 1 and 2.

Vintage Lenses

Pictures 3 and 4 show a "white-lettered RL Edition" version of K2 (Komine 28mm F2.8 CF).

Picture 5 and 6 show my recently acquired Pentax SMC 28mm F3.5.

Robin, are you going to set up a web page (with photos) of all the various versions of the Vivitar 28mm's, a sort of bestiary?

P.S., I passed on a type K3 today, $39.50 Canadian.

Thanks to Google (if we can trust what it finds), I've established that "RL Edition" was nothing more than a marketing gimmick. However, I've seen both white-lettered and blue-lettered versions out there.

Nice one!

I'd give this a whole new number, since it's got distinct markings. Is there a reason you call it a version of the K02? Do you know it to have the same optical formula? And what the heck is "RL" anyway?

Thanks for the info and the photos, which I hope I can use for the bestiary when I have time.

It seems no matter what how many lenses we know about, there will always be more showing up. Trying to fit them into my previous scheme was going to mean that either ID numbers would keep changing or newly discovered lenses would have to be appended at the end of the list, wrecking any logical order. Neither outcome is terribly desirable.

Initially, I had thought that renumbering lenses could occur up until the establishment of a fixed web resource. But the information in this thread has proved too popular. The codes have started to enter common usage. I don't want to screw people up by renumbering indefinitely.

I have come up with a compromise system that necessitates renumbering some of the lenses one last time. The first thing I have done is removed all the KA mount lenses into their own section. Their IDs will start with "A". In some cases there will be an similar lens in the K and A sections, identical in all respects except their mount. But that is no different from before, since there were already similar lenses in the M and K sections.

This alteration seems logical and useful to me, since often the first thing people want to know is the mount.

The second main change is that the first number after that letter now indicates the manufacturer, more or less. K0x lenses are Komine, K1x are Kiron and K2x are everyone else. Of course this scheme will collapse if we get more than ten lenses in a given mount from the same manufacturer, but I hope not!

I should have renumbered K01 to K03 but did not do so, since these IDs are referred to quite often elsewhere. I am sorry that the previous fast K04 has become K10, since that code was also in common use.

I trust these changes meet your approval. I repeat that the IDs will not change again. The only possible exception is for those few lenses where the manufacturer is not known.

K-mount:
K01 : Vivitar / 28MM 1:2.0 / MC / CLOSE FOCUS WIDE ANGLE / NO. 28xxxxxx / Ø49MM [Komine] *
K02 : Vivitar / 28MM 1:2.8 / MC / CLOSE FOCUS WIDE ANGLE / NO. 28xxxxxx / Ø49MM [Komine]
K03 : Vivitar / 28MM 1:2.8 / MC / WIDE ANGLE / NO. 28xxxxxx / Ø49MM [Komine] *
K04 : Vivitar / 28MM 1:2.8 / AUTO WIDE ANGLE / NO. 28xxxxxx / Ø49MM [Komine]
K05 : Vivitar / RL EDITION / 28mm 1:2.8 / CLOSE FOCUS / MC / NO. 28xxxxxx / Ø49mm [Komine]

K10 : Vivitar / 28MM 1:2 / AUTO WIDE-ANGLE / No. 22xxxxxx / Ø55MM [Kiron]
K11 : Vivitar / 28MM 1:2 / WIDE-ANGLE / NO. 22xxxxxx / Ø55MM [Kiron]
K12 : Vivitar / 28MM 1:2.5 / AUTO WIDE-ANGLE / NO. 22xxxxxx / Ø67MM [Kiron]

K20 : Vivitar Series 1 / 28MM 1:1.9 / VMC / AUTO WIDE ANGLE / No. 37xxxxxx / Ø58MM [Tokina]

A02 : VIVITAR / SMS / 28mm 1:2.8 / MC / CLOSE FOCUS WIDE ANGLE / NO. 28xxxxxx / Ø49MM [Komine]

A20 : Vivitar / 28mm 1:2.8 / MC / WIDE ANGLE JAPAN / Ø49mm / IMAGE by [?]
A21 : Vivitar / 28MM 1:2.8 / MC / WIDE ANGLE / Ø49MM [Cosina]
A22 : Vivitar / 28mm 1:2.8 / MC / WIDE ANGLE LENS / NO. 61xxxxxx / Ø52MM [?]

TX mount:
T01 : Vivitar / 28mm 1:2.5 / Auto Wide-Angle / No. 37xxxxx / Ø58mm [Tokina]
T02 : Vivitar / 28mm 1:2.8 / Auto Wide-Angle / No. 37xxxxxx / Ø52mm [Tokina] *
T03 : Vivitar / WIDE-ANGLE / 28mm 1:2.8 / No. 37xxxxx / Auto [Tokina, 58mm]

TX mount have stayed the same. I still have to figure out M42 mount.

These ID numbers are out of date. For the definitive list please see The Great Vivitar 28mm Bestiary. Thank you!

Note that there are no KA-mount Kiron-made Vivitar lenses. Until someone finds one.

So this makes my stuck-wide-open Vivitar 28mm f/2 a K11.

Thanks for your hard work, Robin!

I'm wondering...if you find 4 more Komine-made 28s, will the ninth one be a dog...?

Is this an A21 [Cosina]?

Greetings,

Interesting thread...

I have the following lens, and suspect that it is an A21 [Cosina]. I just got it off eBay for about $35, and have only used it a few times in the last week since I got it. I've very happy with it. Nice pictures, easy to focus, and solid build. I have a K03 which I've been very happy with, but wanted the auto-aperture capability, so bought this A21.

Here is a picture - if this is a match, you can fill in the serial number (92062925) in your list.

re. your A21 [Cosina]

Hi Joe

I have a similar lens s/n 91030153, and find it very useful.

You can see a little pin poking through the base, diagonally opposite the red spot.

I have removed mine so there is no chance of it catching in the recess for the screw focus shaft in my K100/K20 bodies.

Easy to do, just unscrew the four silver Phillips head screws, lift up the base, twist the copper tab at the rear of the pin until it drops out,
then straighten the tab, refit the base and tighten the screws.

I found this procedure in one of the "stuck lens" threads.

Geoff
