a few more samples from the A/f2

nothing special about the these pics, but I think they show that this lens performs very nicely in the bright Texas sun... (using just a small rubber hood)

Just won an auction on Ebay for what looks to be the K07? Did I identify it right? according to the Bestiary, looks like its almost the same as the K02?

Hope I didn't overpay for it though.. Lens seems to be in an Fair condition AFAIK from the pics and description.

I too love the Viv 28 CF lenses!

I was lucky enough to get an A01 from these forums and I will likely never part from it for as long as I shall live.

It's just one of those very special lenses imo.

Which is better? A CF Kiron 28 f2 or a CF Komine 28 f2.8?

I have a Kiron branded 2/28 and a Komine CF 2.8/28. I didn't do any formal tests but practically for my general use the Kiron is just as good any every parameter (except flaring, which it does alot if it is not protected) and faster, so here you go.
the Komine has the advantage of being significantly smaller, if that is an issue.

I always use a standard length rubber collapsible hood on my Kiron (i.e. 49mm dia, designed for a 50mm film lens). No vignetting from the hood and good protection from stray light. Here are some photos I took with the Kiron for the Single In November challenge. Nice sharp lens, quite useable wide open, bokeh can be wild but I like it (not everyone does).

That must be an old designation. In the current Bestiary it is the K05. But yes, it is likely identical to the K02 except that the warranty was extended an extra 2 years.

May it serve you well!

I'm a fan of the Kiron F2. I don't know if it really has a CF and non CF version, but mine has a minimum focus of 1 foot. At close range and at F2, it can actually give some nice isolation.

Hi all,
i am ainterested in vivitar 28/2.8 close focus which is on e-bay from angyandbarry. It seems that buyers come from the forum. I am writing this because I think that it isnŽt necessary to bid on every vivitar on ebay, it will just cost us more money than we should pay. IŽll bid up to 50 USD just to challenge my takumar and if it passed IŽll by a proud owner of lens with pentax k bayonet :-)

Thanks Robin, yeah I must've looked at an older version of the Bestiary when I made my previous post.

Now's the part that I don't particularly look forward to, waiting for it to make the trip halfway around the world to me. Hope it doesn't take too long.

Anyone mind advising how much these lenses usually go for here or in PM? Hoping I didn't overpay for mine (to some degree)

Hey Radek

I paid a tad over USD50 for that copy as I've posted the auction pics of which included shipping from Ontario Canada to Singapore.

I seem to recall a Yahoo Group for people who wanted to organise eBay bidding, so that people didn't end up bidding against each other. I remember being a member but I think it is defunct now. It does make sense, but I think buyers come from all over and, in any case, there are far too many members of this forum alone to coordinate anything.

As for prices, I have made no effort to track these. Really they are so random. Here is a bit of info.

The Vivitar Series 1 [M91] is of special interest to buyers, for good reason. I saw one go for $87 but also for $178 and I am sure higher. Of course it depends on condition. I paid somewhere in the middle of that range for mine, but I think that included shipping to Ireland.

I have seen people ask $160 for the K01, but I landed the 24mm version of the A01 for Ł20, although that was the deal of a lifetime that came about only because the lens was mislabelled in the auction. But I wouldn't sell it for ten times that, so the question of value is a difficult one to answer.

Even mentioning a lens being for sale on eBay in the forums can attract bidders and push up the price. I would never discuss an open auction here if I was interested in a lens.

PS Don't worry, I won't be bidding, I'm happy for now with two 28mm's. If Pentax releases a 28mm Ltd or DA*, I'll buy that.
