Good lens cost good money Jupiter 9 I can buy here for only 34 U$, but... for what? Helios 40 about 125 U$ here, and it's really great lens for portraits!

Search for selling shops I know one shop like e-Buy, but there is Russan language.

125 U$ is minimal price for Helios 40 (I'm has sold one for 250 U$ recently) Minimal price for Helios 40-2 is about 334 U$ in our selling shops, I has bought it for 250 U$ one year ago.

Helios 40-2 I'm compare with Pentax 85mm /1.4 by quality of picture. Price is different too, Pentax 85mm /1.4 cost about 1200-1600 U$ here. But, I want this lens anyway

I saw those lenses in Yahoo Japan Auctions but that's double than the Jupiter-9 and they don't look good cosmetically. Anyway, I'll keep my eye out for more in the future. Thanks for all your input Suro.

I bought mine used and it is a good old lens that I recommend. I find it a bit soft wide open, somewhat soft similar to FA 50 f/1.4 in f/1.4. But a lot has to go with my user errors at wide open aperture with narrow DOF. When I stop down to f/2.8, I find pictures sharpen up a bit and by f/4.0, it is very sharp. That is what I remember.

My impressions & test photos:

I like the lens for the color and smooth bokeh. It works well on flowers and portraits for me. But I use it less due to M42 mount, extra aperture rings, and stop down metering. If I use Av mode, I remember I need to dial in big number for underexposure for certain apertures.
