I'm looking at the Jupiter-9 85mm f/2 as an alternative to the Super Takumar 85mm 1.9 as I just can't afford it. Has anyone had any experience with this lens on the K10D? And can anyone compare it to the Super Takumar 85? Also, is the version selling at rugfit.com plastic or metal?

This is the one I got from them, and it is metal, not plastic:

I highly recommend it.

I have the Jupiter-9 and I also have the Pentax FA 77mm Limited. Maybe it's just me, but from f/2.8 the Jupiter-9 is as sharp as my FA 77mm Limited. I love this lens, and I would never sell it.

It is a must have lens, especially for this price.

I don't like Jupiter 9 and highly recommend you to find Helios 40-2 85mm /1.5

The Helios-40 didn't rate to well at PhotoZone but I do like the large aperture. What exactly don't you like about the Jupiter 9? Also, the Helios-40 seems a little harder to find.

Jupiter 9 works not well with wide open f2.0, and have boring bokeh. It seems like most of Canon lens

Helios 40-2 have a great bokeh and works well from f1.5. Also, Helios 40-2 absolutelly not have the CA. Is great way for portraits (f1.5-f2.8) and landscape (at f5.6-f8.0).

On the Photozone was a technical picture test, not correct by my opinion

It seems those guys not understand - what is the art photography

Some people say that Jupiter-9 is soft at f/2. I think it is still sharp but it lacks contrast. The resolution is there if you increase the contrast in postprocessing.
Also even without postprocessing I don't think it is that bad wide open.

Bellow are some crops from wide open to f/2.8:
Now there is a big chance that the 77Limited was not very well focused but you can get the idea about the sharpness of the Jupiter-9 wide open.

Another thing I like about all the Russian/Soviet lenses is that there is no CA.

I'm not understand - for what you need 85mm lens with good work only from f2.8-f3.5?

Well the Jupiter-9 can be bought easily from rugfit.com for $154.00 and the Helios-40 is hard to find. So even if the Jupiter-9 is a little soft at f/2, I don't think I'd mind too much and Voe, those street photos are really good.

Cheers I have the Jupiter-9 and I also have the Pentax FA 77mm Limited. Maybe it's just me, but from f/2.8 the Jupiter-9 is as sharp as my FA 77mm Limited. I love this lens, and I would never sell it. It is a must have lens, especially for this price.
