Cimko MT Series 28mm f/2.8

I got this lens in a lot with a Vivitar 80-200 1:4.5, a pentax-m 50mm f/2, a flash and a MG. Seems to perform fairly good, but I can't find any info on it anywhere online. Anyone know anything about it?

Looks very much like a Tokina lens in general shape and design - cousin to one the Vivitar variants. I like the Tokina 28 very much so understand your affinity for this lens.

Thrift store score

I also have one of these lenses. I picked it up for $3 at the local thrift store. This thread is the first hit on Google for it. Anyone?

I also saw this post on the photo.net pentax forums:

QuoteQuote:
At least some of the lenses sold under the Rikinon name were really from Cima Kogaku, who also sold them directly under the Cimko MT name. Cima sold under a LOT of different names, including Super Paragon PMC, Carenar, Cambron (house brand of the notorious Cambridge Camera Exchange), Revuenon, and more. They also made the last (low-cost) set of lenses for Topcon cameras (RE Topcor), and the AM Topcor lenses with K mount.

They had a US patent (4,174,167) on a system by which one lens design could be fitted with a huge variety of mounts, fixed by 4 screws.

I've seen them with a huge variety of mounts, including M42, Pentax K, Topcon, Canon FD, Contax/Yashica, Nikon, Minolta MD, Konica, Olympus M.
Does anyone know anything about that company?

I have this lens in Canon FD mount. Convinced a shop to part with it for $5 after it languished on the shelf for about 6 months. Cima was a manufacturer, not just a brand. Cimko and Cimako were two names they put on their products. I'm sure several importers put their names on 'em. K-Mart's Focal brand is one. The images confirm my impression of my lens. It's no slouch! I also have a Cimako 135/2.8 in Minolta MC mount. See here, scroll down...

Lenses

I no longer consider my comments abuot Hanimex and Makinon correct.

As the author of the quote, I'll elaborate...

The three identifying features I've found of the Cima Kogaku lenses are the asymmetric diamond focusing mark, the plastic aperture ring, and the irregularly spaced four screws that hold the lens mount in place.

The line included primes 24/2.8, 28/2.8, 35/2.8, 50/1.7, 135/2.8, and 200/3.3. Zooms include 28~50/3.5~4.5, 28~80/3.5~4.5, 35~100/3.5~4.3, 55~230/3.5~4.5, 70-200/3.8~4.8, 80-200/3.8, and 80-200/4.5.

Construction quality is decent, not stunning. The auto-diaphragm system isn't the lowest in friction, it may less than superb in operation on some mounts. (See the patent.)

I have the 200/3.3 in Topcon mount, it's respectably sharp.

You should be able to swap mounts between lenses, if they are the same maximum aperture.

No P/KA version of the mount, just Pentax K.
