Pentax-M 24-35 zoom ring question

Hey all—

Recently I bought another copy of the 24-35 zoom, which I've owned before and quite missed. This copy has a kind of mechanical quirk that I don't recall from my other copy—the zoom ring throw seems rather short, with the red diamond never quite reaching the 35 on the left or the 24 on the right. The ring stops with the diamond about an eighth of an inch to the right of the "35," and an eighth of an inch to the left of the "24." I don't have 24 or 35 primes to see if the actual focal length is correct.

Those of you who own this lens, is this behavior normal?

Sounds like yours may have been dropped...

Hmm, thank you. How could dropping it limit its zoom range? Is this a common problem?

If you haven't used Eric Hendrickson to look at/repair Pentax lenses, suggest you contact him. Highly recommended.

Yes, I've used him before! When I have a little money to spend, I'll send it to him for a tuneup...

Sudden impacts can play havoc with things that move, though in my experience focus issues are more common than zoom ones, but I've seen both.

Eric Hendrickson repaired a 50mm f1.7 for me that had been hit at some point in its life, and that little lens is wonderful.
