I just bought a CZJ Biometar 80mm f/2.8 (M42 fitting) - Anyone have experience of it?

I managed to get this lens at a reasonable-ish price and I'd like to know whether anyone else has used of one these before. It's an all-chrome lens with a tiny bubble in the front glass element.

Thanks.

The M42 version seems to be scarce compared to the Exacta, Praktina, or Pentacon 6 versions.

The P6 version is pretty cheap, and P6 adapters are cheap too...The bokeh might be worth it...

It is a great lens. The chrome is the best among all the versions of the lens. It will render a swirly (not very extreme) bokeh wide open , which reduces as you stop down. I feel the images it produces have a very "film" look. Sharp in the center from.one stop down. Wide open it flatters the model with its little bit of softness and swirl. Renders skin tones beautifully. In short you'll love it, at least I do.

Happy shooting.

I have the pentacon six version, must be a late model. It doesn't swirl, but I like it.

I have a zebra version in Pentacon 6 mount, adapted to K-mount. Attached is a pic taken with it (an old oil can in my woolshed). Wide open, f2.8. Strangely, the K-3 called it 85mm rather than 80mm. I like the way it renders.

As the lens is manual, you have to set the focal length yourself. There is no 80mm setting so you choose either 75mm or 85mm.

Great picture though. Adds a kind of 'depth' to the image.

If you use Lightroom the LensTagger plugin will let you set the lens information tag...

Hi, all:
I’m also looking to get a pantacon AV 2.8/80 or Carl Zeiss Jena Biometar 80 2.8. I would like to know what adapter to get for use with Pentax KP Camera.
Any info will be appreciated.
Thanks

I presume you are looking at a lens with the Pentacon P6 mount. Just look for a Pentacon P6 to K mount adapter on ebay. They are nothing fancy. They just give you the correct registration distance with the correct bayonet on each end. There may be different brand names but I suspect they all come from the same factory.
