I bought this Vivitar Series 1 1.4X extender what must be about 3 years ago years tried out, didn't like it so I stuffed it in my camera bag never to be seen again. Today I decided to give it another try and to my surprise it doesn't take bad pictures. I tried it out on my 31mm, 35mm, 77mm 50mm f1.7 and they all focus accurately although maybe a little slower. There is a little degradation of the images, but they are still usable. I haven't tried it outdoors yet because it was raining out here. Not sure what I paid for it either but I think it was under $100. Compare that to the Pentax 1.4x !
