DFA 35★ is the next logical prime lens addition, but I wrote 'don't hold your breath' as to its delivery in the next 6-12 months.
I suppose one prime will come together with a new camera, though, and most likely DFA50★. But this is just a conjecture.

50/1.4 Q4/2017
85/1.4 probably Q2/2018

35/1.4... eh.. Lets buy Sigma 35/1.4 while they still make it.

Concerning 24-70/2.8 G2, I hope that Tamron will FORCE Ricoh to do some upgrade also. Lens is assembled by Tamron factory, so it makes no sense to run two production lines for two different lenses. It will be cheaper to go with more recent design. And it seems that at least AF motor is different in Tam 24-70/2.8 G2.
So we might see some DFA24-70/2.8II

It will be nice to see some own design of DFA*24-70/2.8, but there apparently are no resources for tasks like this.

Logical for me are 17mm, 20mm, 24mm and 28mm lenses. 35, 50 and ~85 =FA77 Already exists, So why come up with updates on the lenses that sold now.
The title of the thread is a new 24-70, but a Pentax lens based on Tamron 150-600 G2 seems more intelligent.

OH. I would love to see a Pentax 150-600 come out. Personally, I would like to see Pentax team up with Sigma and Tamron. They both have goods lenses out there. Pentax would not have to spend $$$$$ on R&D. Maybe have Pentax supply the lens elements and mount. One can hope!

Not anytime soon since they just released their 24-70mm not even 2 years ago, so the next "upgrade" won't come for another 2 years or so.

Plus I'd rather see Pentax fill in the gaps in their FF prime lens lineup (e.g. 15mm, 20mm, 24mm, 35mm, 135mm, 200mm)

Very unlikely; Pentax already has the 150-450 so it's not like they're missing a long tele zoom.

Indeed, now what's needed most are the D FA primes, and perhaps a medium tele zoom that is not very expensive... this starts to look like their lens roadmap

The answer depends on whether the Pentax-badged version was a batch run, if so, how large a batch (was) is required to make a run profitable - and how many D FA24~70's remain in factory stock.

Could anyone say again what was improved on the 24-70 G2? Coatings, IIRC (but perhaps the Pentax version do have HD coatings); VR which would be disabled in a Pentax version; anything else? Not the optics, which are the same.
Why should Pentax even bother?

No reasons. But lots of reasons to moan though ^^

Main diffrences are:added support for Tap-in console and firmware updates, new type of IS motor(or updated, I don't remember exactly), dual cpu/acceleration units for autofocus motor, more sturdy metal parts used for exterior chassis. Optics are unchanged. Personaly I'm a huge fan of that dock units for lenses, that would be very nice addition to have a chance to tune up lenses that way. I hope that someday Pentax will offer this kind of solution.

Could it be that we optically have the Tamron G2 24-70mm from the beginning - when Pentax showed and wanted their coatings and engineering exclusively on that very lens - but did not let Tamron to use it. Just to deliver it in it the Pentax way for Pentax only. G2 version is just now squishing in the extras cpu:s, shake reduction and double focus-motors for the Canicons . Pentax perhaps just locked in their science on that very lens - leaving Tamron with a long face - now trying to be save it?

Pentax has the know how - and used it - but didn't sell it - just wanted it to be used on a lens that was VERY GOOD - for themselves - making it better.
Saved a lot of money and time in the run as well as Pentax simplified it as well when removing the in lens stabilisation. .

If so - there will be no 24-70mm series II - and will not be needed.
We already have Pentax HD and the other Pentax optical engineering in that very lens?
Not to be used by others in plain production.

I'd rather Pentax produce lenses which don't need a tune up. I understand there are variances in manufacturing, but I think the dock gives an excuse for loose tolerance. None of my FA* and FA Limited lenses have ever needed adjustments; they are sharp, as they should be.
