Will next tamron 24-70 G2 come as a Pentax FA* lens

According to photorumors tamron will release a new and imprmoved 24-70 2.8 lens. Will pentax get this lens rebadged as an FA* lens and if so what would it have to offer over the stock tamron? Better sealing different lens coatings?

I'd be inclined to think that anything which comes out with a star on it would be an in-house design, for reasons of prestige if nothing else. (And I think you mean D-FA*)

Whether we will see it rebadged in any form depends on Ricoh's agreement with Tamron.

My local photo store owner thinks the G2 Tamrons will be available in a Pentax mount next year. Apparently there was an exclusive clause for a couple of years.

Your local photo store owner is likely speculating about both availability, and the exclusive clause.

This is Tamron news... so far there's no connection with Pentax, not even a rumor. I don't believe Pentax would replace the 24-70 after a mere 3 years; and I agree that a D FA* would be a Pentax design.
A new D FA 24-70 f/2.8 is not entirely impossible... but is it likely? IMO if Pentax would decide the current version is not good enough, they'll take their time and make a D FA* - after higher priority lenses.

A little bit of coating to improve light transmission and contrast of the glass (copy Pentax HD recipe?) with a new plastic shell G2 style + USB cal. et voila, resell it to Canikon mount users. Probably how Ricoh imaging gets some of the lens customization as part of the business deal.

Yes, there is a connection. Ricoh imaging brought some improvement on the Tamron lens and Tamron was not allowed to copy the improvements for a certain period of time. Tamron will finally be able to implement the improvements that the Pentax DFA24-70 has and they will call it G2.
I thought they were they were virtually the same already. But you may correct.

Apparently, the MTF charts were different. The Pentax version had a more flat response corner to corner.

Tamron and Pentax mtf chart:

I don't see much difference. You'll see more variation between samples. It's probably just and update to the externals not the formula. It will look like this new 18-400 they will announce this week:

Do you reckon that kick back up towards the edges is sample variation? At 30lp/mm it means the difference between 0.25 and 0.5 contrast ratio. If so, it supports the notion that Tamron isn't too fussy about tolerances.

These MTF curves being calculated, not measured, i don't see much relevance in the concept of sample variation there...
