Comp. Sigma 100-300+1,4TC - Sigma 120-400 - Pentax 150-450

Hello

As a long Tele I am using a SIgma 100-300/4 on my K1 ...and if that is not long enough I use a sigma 1,4 TC.
What I really like on the 100-300 is the fast AF (mechanical) and quuality/weight of that combinations is quite good.

To my questiod: Has anyybody compared that to the lenses mentioned in the thread title?

I'd like to know more about this, being a regular user of the 300 (later version) + 1.4TC on the K-3 and now the K-3 II - not that I could afford the 150-450.

OTOH, I have read not very good reports of the 120-400 - and, remember, both the 300 and the 120-400 are very old lenses.

May be we should include the Da 60-250+DA-TC in thet comparison

btw:I enjoyed my combination possibility during the Isle of Man TT recently - only back side is that files do not tellyou whether you used the TC or not.

I don't know anything about the 300, but I have the Sigma 120-400 and I recently bought the DA 60-250 and an HD DA 1.4x Teleconverter. The Sigma IQ isn't even in the ballpark with the DA combo. My Sigma now resides in the back of the closet.

w.r.t. the Sigma long zooms, you might want to read the members' reviews here if you have not already done so.

A thing to also remember is the spares situation for those old Sigma zooms is poor to unobtainable (was lucky to get my 100-300 AF board replaced a couple of years ago, but I doubt it would be the same situation now).

FWIW .... I had the Sigma 100-300/4 and the Sigma 1.4x TC for a while (sold it): great performance. Better without the TC though.
I tried, twice, my daughter's Pentax D FA 150/450 on my K3, with and without the HD 1.4x TC ... great without the TC; satisfactory with the TC.
I would imagine that the 150-450 would rock on a K1 (lots of posts/threads about that combo on this site).
Cheers!

I think you/"someone" edited out the comments about the aperture contact issues on the 100-300 & 1.4X TC (maybe "someone" thought you were swearing, but, of course, you were not!) - and I occasionally have the same problem because the TC introduces some rotational "play" in the mount, and so the contacts don't always line up correctly.
