There's way too much truth in what you wrote, so maybe I'll ignore it.

Here's my thinking, (and what's getting me in trouble). With the 20-40, I could put it on my K3 and it would be great as an all around WR lens when I travel. When I get the K1, I could add the 31 plus the 100 macro and I would have a nice full frame kit.

This doesn't include the plethora of M42, K, M & A lenses I have, which cover me quite well from 24 to 200. Nor the several zooms I have. I could get rid of the 55-300 and Sigma 24-105, both excellent copies, in mint condition which I purchased new. That would give me a little more room...
You did ask.

But I cannot even begin to count the times I have completely ignored my own advice.

So feel free.

EDIT - But I suspect you have used similar methods to rationalize the purchase of many of the lenses you already own. To be honest though, if you really want a very, very good walk around lens I would recommend the Pentax DA 18-135 over the 20-40. It is also weather resistant and far more flexible. I tried the 20-40 and really was not that impressed.

I find IQ to be truly exceptional from the 20-40mm LTD. As you mention, your other lenses may not offer WR. This zoom lens does, and is small and light, but very well-built. It would save you from bothering to get the 21mm LTD. I also have the FA 77mm LTD and it makes a good kit with the LTD zoom, along with the DA 15mm LTD. If you go for a K-1 also, you already have the FA 43mm as well as the 77mm full-frame lenses. This fine little zoom lens is certainly a match for my new KP. Very useful for light carrying with high quality.

So yeah... I went and did it and bought the HD DA 20-40

And yes, it is an amazing lens, especially on the K3.

Congratulations, Twilhelm. depending on your shooting style, you may need no other lens.

I can see me using this lens most of the time. And then there's LBA... and a FA 31 I need to complete my trifecta of ladies. 😂

It's a great little lens. You'll get plenty of 'oohs' and 'ahs' with this lens parked on your camera(at least I do). Not only that, it takes great pictures with incredible contrast, and saturated colors. Compared to the 21mm and 40mm you'll gain about a stop on the low end, but lose a full stop on the high end. One thing that is rarely mentioned is that this lens goes all the way up to f32 ! Perfect if you like landscapes.

I have fallen in love with this lens, at least as much as my 43 and 77. Great build quality, and frankly I find the lens to be quite sharp. My copy doesn't seem to exhibit the soft corners that I read about in some reviews.

It's worthy of the Limited designation and I'm glad I broke down and bought it.
