Voigtlander 75mm f/2.5 Color Heliar Sample Images

'
Lately, there's been a lot of interest expressed in my Voigtlander 75mm f/2.5 Color Heliar lens. So, this afternoon I put it on my K1 and took it out to the local Free Style Kayak practice.

The sun was bright and to the Kayaker's backs. So their faces are in shadows. But I thought I'd none-the-less post some photos to give you a feel for the nice out of camera colors you get with this lens. No color or contrast adjustment/enhancements to any.

The colors that I get out of this lens on my K1 are what I'd describe as "realistic" and "pure". This is one lens I love to use for my color images. I doubt that I'll ever shoot it in black & white.

Nice images. Tons of contrast and great color. You've got an enviable stable of lenses.

Thanks Dice!

All of my current lenses are manual focus. Who says you can't shoot fast action (like Kayak competitions) with a manual focus lens?

By being willing to put in the time to master manual focusing techniques, photographers will make available to themselves some of the very best lenses ever made!

I find that using premium manual-focus lenses almost eliminates the post-processing that I used to do - world-class lenses just produce such beautiful images right out of the camera that post-processing requirements are either reduced or eliminated all together.

The Voigtlander 90mm is another legendary lens. It's of course an APO lens, and as such also has a terrific color rendition.

Some serious photographers and authors I know have told me that they consider the V90 as one of the best lenses ever made in the Pentax K mount.

I've owned both lenses, and find that I slightly prefer the V75 lens over the V90 lens.

I would like to see comparison side by side with DA70/2.4, it seems that this particular Voigtlander formula was slightly redesigned for our little limited gem to fit it into auto focus pancake chassis.

The V75mm lens is not a pancake design.

I do not have the DA70/2.4 any longer, sold it last year. As I recall, it was a very sharp lens. So, unfortunately, I will not be able to do such a side by side comparison.

But, from my memory, I'd say that the V75 produces better colors than the DA70/2.4 does. I'd say that sharpness is fairly equal between these two lenses.

I didn't said that V75 is pancake, but that the DA70/2.4 was designed around that same optical scheme and put into pancake shaped lens chassis, one of groups was redesigned a bit to achieve that. Btw I just found this thread about it: I was right! Interesting fact Re DA70/2.4 - PentaxForums.com

Both the V75 and the DA70/2.4 have an optical design that's 6 elements in 5 groups. Other than that, there are major differences in the design of most of the individual elements.

I do not think these are even close to being the same lens.

It's like saying all 8 element lenses that use the "Planar" design are the same.
