OK, someone's father has beaten someone else's.

Btw, you loose 8cm in close focus with the f/2 compared to the f/2.8 : 25 cm versus 17.

I have a new 25mm f 2.8 with M42 screw mount on order from B&H. The screw mount Distagon is actually less expensive(new) than the Nikon mount and almost half the price of the f/2 version. I will be using it with a genuine Pentax adaptor. If i am not happy with the screw mount/adaptor I will be sending it to Dave to be "Leitaxed".

Dave has recentlly done the conversion of a 21mm Distagon for me and he does excellent work.

I had my first chance to really compare it to my K20mm this week with some water fall photos. Long exposures, f/11-f/16 with a B&W polarizer. I hate to say this, but with those photos in that particular setting, I have a hard time telling the difference - both produce excellent images that look incredibly similar. I'm confident in different shooting conditions the difference will be more obvious(I hope!).

Fenwoodian, after reading your posts here, I have decided to cancel my order for the m42 mount 25mm and instead purchase one made with the Pentax mount. I found one on Ebay that claims to be "mint" - we'll see! Thanks for your expert advise.

Chuck, good decision. I expect that you'll like the lens in the Pentax mount much better than the M42 mount.

Also, one can not put a Leitax adapter mount on an M42 lens.

I did not know that! That sure does make my decision better! Thanks.

The qualities of the Zeiss 25/f2 sound very much like those of the Zeiss 28/f2, except with the Zeiss 28/f2 corners sharpen up before f11—I'd say f5.6 or f8. Does that match your experience Dave (since you have both lenses)?

Zeiss rate their 25/2 as sharper than their 28/2: 3.4 vs 3.9 micron minimum pixel size for 30% contrast.

So, after another week how is the lens performing for you? I'm strongly considering doing the same thing as the Leitax conversion as the ZF2 18mm worked out so well for me. I like the 25mm focal length and had come close to purchasing the ZK 2.8 version, but your post got me thinking. It's the lack of purple fringing as much as anything that is persuasive.

Indeed, I'm still happy with my 25/2 lens. I like the IQ, and it's a relatively small/compact lens for a Zeiss (seems like only half as big as my 35/1.4 lens).

I think lenscore.com hit the nail on the head when their overall rating on the 25/2.8 was 823, and their rating on the 25/2 was 959. The 25/2 overall just produces better images to my eye.

Les, after I've gotten the 25/2 and 35/1.4 Zeiss lenses, I've fallen out of love with my 28/2 lens (in fact sold it).

I'm writing a book on bokeh and wide aperture photography, so what I look for in a lens these days is not what the typical Zeiss lens buyer is looking for.

Chuck, lovely shot. How creative that person was to use an old/rusty truck for a flower box!
