Length of production 7 to 13 years. I do not think star lens get turned very often. That said, the line is due for a refresh which should happen in the next 3 to 5 years.
And what, pray tell, happened in 2004?

My history may be spotty but that's when Pentax finally met its DOOM, which had been foretold since '77 (I understand the first DOOM-telling began when Takumars ceased production).

So you're not including the D FA* 15-30 and 24-70 because they're made by Tamron? Pentax is much smaller now than in the past after several management changes. I'm just happy they're still here.

Those lenses do not have a star designation. So it appears Pentax is not including them. Odd, but that is the way it is.

Those are D-FA but not ★ grade lenses.

What are you waiting for?
In 2017 there have been seven star lenses in production. And 14 legacy ones.
How many of them do you already own and what do ou miss with them?
