2013
2012
2011
2010
2009

You think that's bad? They haven't made a new Takumar since 1977. Can't believe I'm stuck shooting with such ancient stuff. . .

That's what I've been saying! They have totally disregarded us.

Re-engineering the old lenses to correct all of the auto-focus (SDM) issues would be a good starting point. Would love to buy a 60-250 that I could rely on not to fail as soon as the warranty runs out.

FA*600 f/4 1991 - 2004
FA* 400 f/5.6 1997 - 2004
FA* 300 f/4.5 1991 - 2004
FA* 300 f/2.8 1994 - 2004
FA* 200 f/2.8 1993 - 2004
FA*24 f/2 1991 - 2004

Length of production 7 to 13 years. I do not think star lens get turned very often. That said, the line is due for a refresh which should happen in the next 3 to 5 years.

New coatings and rounded blades? But they would probably take away the aperture ring and then where would we be?

I don't see that happening.

Besides, it's not like they can bring back thorium glass for the 50/1.4...

Well they used rounded blades when they updated the DA Limiteds, kinda messed up the starburst on the 15mm. Coatings should not be an issue. But you have a good point on the thorium glass. I expect they would have trouble getting that past current regulations.

I like to tell my friends I shoot with the antiques. Many appreciate that there is something special about them. They are nearly all I have.

Exactly!

Actually, I'm rather fond of my nearly-60 year old Auto-Tak. That's the point - it's a fine piece of glass, even though it's relatively ancient.

As for the other Taks, @Dartmoor Dave gets my vote for the fantastic images he makes with those 'terrible' lenses (and that out-dated, less-than-24 MP, old CCD sensor).

Well, we seem to have a consensus here: Ricoh's main focus should be new Takumars moving forwards. And an M42 mount full frame DSLR, obviously!
