An excellent example.

The time and effort we spent mastering focus and DOF seems to be devoted exclusively to bitching about failed auto focus today. I well remember having to memorize DOF charts before being allowed to check out 'advanced' gear like the Kodak Medalist or a manual focus lens. (An', yes, it was three-miles up-hill in the snow in both directions too. )

With 300mm the DoF is always little. That is why the distance marking is critical. My eye sight is still ok for critical focusing
