SMC Pentax-DA 40mm F2.8 XS lens - compatible with MZ-3?

Hello. I've just gotten an MZ-3 body via eBay. I haven't shot film in years and years and am new to this site. Can someone please inform me whether or not the SMC Pentax-DA 40mm F2.8 XS lens will work with my camera? My vision isn't great anymore and autofocus is a MUST. Thank you!

Quite a few users of the XS say it works on the K-1, so it should work on film.

It will only work in shutter priority and full auto modes, as it has no aperture ring.

don't know if it will work on film bodies or not but here is a detailed review of the 40 mm xs and a couple of threads you might want to look at

It'll work fine as Steve said, with the limitation that the aperture can only be set automatically on most bodies.

This one seems to have what I might need: PENTAX Limited SMC-FA 43mm f/1.9 AF. Autofocus and aperture ring. Thank you.

You need either a MZ7 or MZ6 in order to use this lens properly.

Or any SF-series,
Or any Pentax camera with KA contacts, if you can deal with manual focus.

So how do you change aperture with a SF camera?

That one's better, though a bit larger and more expensive.

You can't. But you also can't change the aperture on an A-series lens in 'A'.
My point was that the camera can get the correct exposure.

in general great info but as far as the OP specific needs:

let's remember that the OP specified that

[quote=tdawg;4090412 . . . My vision isn't great anymore and autofocus is a MUST. Thank you![/quote]

so does using the PENTAX Limited SMC-FA 43mm f/1.9 AF. Autofocus and aperture ring with an MZ-3 body allow the OP to utilize AF ???

can anyone confirm??

https://www.pentaxforums.com/camerareviews/pentax-mz-3.html] - did I get the right camera ??

" Autofocus operation of the FA 43mm Limited lensis achieved with the motor in the camera. The lens has no built-in autofocus motor. Thus, the autofocus will work with all AF-enabled Pentax bodies. "

It seems the SMC Pentax-FA 35mm F2 AL will fit the bill: autofocus and aperture ring. Plus it's also, miraculously, affordable.
