HD Pentax-D FA 15-30mm F2.8 = zoom lock button?

It doesn't have one right?

I have read some threads about a really smooth (like uncomfortably too smooth) zoom throw on some 15-30 2.8, and it started me thinking...

I am considering to buy one and I would like to confirm if it really lacks the zoom lock button.

"and a zoom lock button intended to prevent the zoom from extending when pointed downwards.

It doesn't have one and doesn't need one. It is made to tight tolerances and the 'zoom' is all internal to the outside protective hood. Great lens!

Well if the zoom thingy is really loose that button would come handy, but thanks for the confirmation.

Just now walked ~ 4 miles with that lens set on 15. Didn't budge when hanging on a shoulder strap on my K-1. Probably the only zoom I have that would not move under those conditions

I've never had the zoom creep while walking with this lens mounted to my K1. Even if it did, the worst case would be rotating the zoom ring back to whatever you wanted when using - overall length doesn't change when zooming. As already mentioned, the changes all occur within the lens hood, which also effectively gives more/less hood in keeping with the focal length changes. I would not let the lack of a lock play into the decision process. It really is a very nice lens.

Completely unnecessary. It's an internal zoom. It doesn't extend.

bought a 15-30 and returned it because of this issue. amazon warehouse deal. I know the zoom only extends to the max of the tulip hood, but i just don't feel comfortable with an investment like that having such loose tolerances. might purchase again if i can find one that doesnt creep.

update: purchased a new version and the zoom throw is much tighter than that warehouse deal. Not super tight, but enough to hold in place and be able to "feel" the rotation. I'd go so far as to say the 15-20 range is stiffer than the 20-30 range, which would make sense because of the design of the zoom throw.
