Hood compatibility for FA* 85mm F1.4

Morning,

I recently acquired a 85 1.4 FA* Lens for a good deal but with one drawback, it doesn't have a lens hood. I've searched for one and there are some replacements available but they are extremely expensive ($200+) I've found a PH-RBD67 with is a plastic hood for a decent price but the proper one is a MH-RBD67. I really don't care what the thing is made of, I just need a hood that will work.

Does anyone know if I got the plastic hood, would it work?

Thanks!

Corey

It all depends if it will fit the specific bayonet fittment of the FA* 85mm.

You would do better and cheaper to get a generic hood that fits the 67mm filter thread of the lens

yes the generic might just do ya, unless you use a circular polarizer and the hood has a cut out which allows you to adjust the filter without removing the hood

don't know if the original hood had one or whether your " suspected " replacement has one

I doubt if a generic hood would have one.

I have the opposite problem, a hood with a cut out and the part which goes into the cut out to make the hood whole has gone AWOL

might have to dig out some duct tape

won't allow me to adjust on the fly but would give me a " whole " hood for my D FA * 70 - 200 mm F2.8 zoom

If you can use one that screws into the filter threads of your lens, there are a number of them at very reasonable ($10-15) prices on Amazon. I just picked up two for 50mm and 35mm lenses - complete with lens covers - for less than $30.

The original FA*85 hood is a solid metal one, with no cutout. It is a portrait lens, so not a lot of call for polariser

The 85mm's bayonet is quite unique, so you may or may not be able to get other bayonet hoods to fix. If you don't want to shell out the cash for the original hood (sure sounds expensive, but IMO it's a core part of the lens), then I agree with the prior recommendations that a generic rubber hood would be the way to go.

A generic round hood gives a large area to turn a pola filter as doesn't matter what its orientation is. Wide angles are a different issue as the rectangular hood works better.

Keep in mind that there have been at least two different (hood) versions of the FA* 85mm f1.4:
