Sigma 10-20mm first impressions

I have to say that I am quite pleased with this lens. I took it out on my waverunner on Lake Erie today for some shoreline shots. Yeah, I know, a bit risky, but the lake was boring and flat today, and I kept my camera in a Pelican case during long distance travels. Here are a few of the pictures:

So, would you agree that I got a decent copy of this lens??? By the way, I could not get the pictures to show up in my message directly from the gallery, is there a way to do that?

Thos are nice pics indeed I would say it's a good copy. As for posting the actula pictures look for the icon with a mountian on it - click on that and then post the url.

nice photos, i'm not sure they're the kind of photos for testing tho
try some brick wall / newspaper at different focal lengths and apertures to check

what are your impressions of the lens? (Besides that you're pleased :P)

Hi,

Just gone through 2 bad copies of the 10-20 myself (posted another thread) - my 3rd is a definite keeper though...like the shots, just a quick comment on the last one - it's a little soft on the L/H side, maybe it's more to do with DOF than the lens, the reason I mention it is that my previous 10-20 was de-centred & very soft on the R/H side.

Thanks Simon. I am pretty sure it's soft on the left because of DOF. My left shoulder was within about 12" of the structure, and I was center focused about 15' ahead of that point. I'm having fun with it!!

I think I got lucky first time round. Haven't used it much yet but I'm really pleased with the results I've had so far.

I have never heard of a bad copy until this thread. I guess I got lucky.

I'm 2 for 2 with the Sigma 10-20. Had a good copy when I was shooting Pentax, and got a good copy for my Canon rig. It's a F-U-N lens

Simon, Yes I did. In fact, I now have a B+W polarizer on it most of the time.
In double fact, I use a Polarizer on most of me lenses.

So how did you get the images embedded in the thread? I thought I tried everything but it seems to always want to limit the URL length to 20 characters......

Well, this is the only lens that you had kept for so long! It had to be good.

Maybe you can watch out a cheap copy for me?
