Wow, a necro thread.

At any rate, that ebay lens has been opened up sometime in the past. Look at the rubber grip. It has been cut, and spliced.

Edit: BTW. This lens was actually developed for the "new" K series bodies. Asahi Optical actually had the Spot F and ESII bodies running in parallel with the K2 etc. and fitted some of these with the m42 mount. There was another 15mm called the SMC Tak 15/3.5 AL. Only 400 of the AL version was made with the m42 mount and I believe CarbonF actually has one these! Of course estimates for the regular version of the SMC Tak 15/3.5 is about 500.

I'm with Lowell:

The really wide M42 Tak primes are way too expensive, and the money could be better spent on one of the great new, modern UWA zooms.

And for primes, I really don't think you can compare a 15mm Tak to the DA15 limited--especially when you consider how close the prices are.

The M 20mm seems to come up for sale with a reasonable frequency. Thats a pretty wide lens, maybe more practical than the chunky 15mm. USD 300 typically, so quite a bit cheaper than the 15mm. Just checking my DA 18-55mm on my film body, 18mm looks freekishly wide to me. 15mm must be bonkers.

With only 900 copies of both the regular and AL version of that SMC Tak 15/3.5 being made, there aren't that many copies available anyway and they are basically serious collector pieces. Plus, as hoojammyflip pointed out indirectly, these Taks are full frame. That would be like a 10mm Ltd on our aps-c bodies FOV.

The lens the subject of the ebay listing had a "4" in the distance scale, which from my research, would suggest it was one of the supposedly rarer, & more desirable, aspheric versions. However, I was not impressed by its cosmetic condition.
Cheers, Pickles.

This is a new one to me:

FOV changes because the lens is full frame?

For Sale??

Hi Everybody, I'm new here. I have a SMC PENTAX-A 1:3.5 15mm, #5906880.
This used to be my favorite lens on the SF10. I got out of 35mm and got into P&S a while back (years and years).

Now I've just got serious again and bought a Canon T2i and am taking some basic classes. Anybody know what digital lens is similar to the old 15mm Pentax?

Thanks Mike
