LBA Itching... What about a HD DA 1.4?

Hello dear Pentaxians,

Can someone tell me about the effect of the HD Pentax-DA 1.4 AW AF converter used with those lenses (and my K-3)?
Is it really (aside LBA) worth it for:

DA* 60-250?

Does it work with the FA* 85?

Also for Astro with a telescope?

Could please someone provide some picture links with those specific combinations (I have only seen 2 from the 2014 Normhead's review of the converter)?

Thank you in advance as I think i have found one at a fair price.

Kind regards.

J.

It works well with the DA* 60-250

I am not sure on the FA* 85, but it works with every single AF lens I have and passes correct info whether screwdrive or not.

Yes, it works well for astro with a telescope and with a lens. PeteXL uses it. check the Astrophotography user group on here. I've used it and have been happy with the results, but I don't have any linked pics because my processing at the time sucked. You will not introduce any bad stuff in, but it will take longer to gather light due to the stop of light lost.

perhaps reviewing the " in depth review " for the item found under " Lenses " above could be helpful

The HD DA 1.4 is suitable for apsc. I wouldn't recommend for full frame, although it can be used in crop mode.
I had the TC for K3 + DA300, it worked well and make a light weight 420 f5.6. I sold it when I purchased the DFA150450 and K1.
Later I purchased again a TC, used it for a while with K1 and 150-450, but had to stop down to f11 / f14 to achieve good sharpness. + heavy vignetting, so I figured I'd crop and it would be about the same.

Stimilated by this thread, I took some shots today with the FA*85 and the teleconverter on the K-1.

In full frame mode, wide open, it vignettes a little in the corners. The effect is more pronounced at infinity focus than MFD. I won't bore you with photos of the sky unless pressed.

Stopped down, the vignetting is not as noticeable, but the image quality in the corners falls off dramatically. If the image below doesn't convince you, click on it to view a larger version in Flickr.

Although the FA*85 exhibits a bit of glow wide open, when you add the teleconverter it turns into something like a Helios!

Thanks for quick samples... To get an Helios-like rendering with the FA*85 and HD TC is amazing!

Auction won! But quite pricey: 245$ including shipping (Was 75$ 3 minutes before end of auction). Is it a fair price?

The HD teleconverter is USD600 at B&H currently, so I'd say you did OK
