There's a little metal loop that is found at the bottom of the Manfrotto QR plates used to torque the tripod mount screw.
That metal loop is not strong enough to bear the weight of a camera and lens. Op/tech's strap and clips will have no problems but the loop is likely to break.

Find a tripod plate with a dedicated hole. I understand you use a Manfrotto plate, not a universal Arca-Swiss plate, so it might be more difficult to find a suitable plate. I know Peak Design have a version of their Arca-Swiss plate which includes adapters to fit some Manfrotto products. You might find suitable plates on eBay.

Optech USA has an interesting web site and some interesting products I see

Lens Support Adaptor - additional support for heavy lenses | OP/TECH USA

If I was going to try the first Item, I would buy the second and attach the first to the second, then when it was time to use the camera and lens, you just take off the hood-hat and there is nothing to interfere with the functioning of the lens

If I have figured out the system correctly that is

the video found on the hood-hat page seems to indicate that I guessed right

I'm not too keen on the hood hat idea as it would force the lens to hang out in front of me. At the moment I'm exploring the idea of a FastenR T1 as linked above, or the possibility of keeping my current set up and using the strap over my shoulder. As long as the camera mount is tough enough, that is.
