thank you for info. that is important, because i had some bad copies on canon and it's really frustrating when AF is not working as supposed to.

DA 17-70 is a very good lens for that price. It's sharp, contrasty, f/4 constant. Mine never had problems with SDM. MY copy had some limits: CAs at 17 mm were visible (also stopped down to f/8) , distortion at 17 mm is important (but simple to correct). For my habits , as a walkaround lens, it was perfect except for some degrees more of AOW in the wide end (16 mm is 24 mm FF equivalent, every mm in the wide end is important) and a longer reach in the tele. So , in few words, 16-85 would be the perfect walkaround lens for me (forgiving the variable f/ and remembering that perhaps it fixes the small bugs of the DA17-70).
