Incidentally, my only power zoom lens has a broken preset button so I can't experiment - do all power zoom functions still work on the newest cameras, anybody? I know the basic power zoom only requires power, but I can't remember sure if the other features are entirely lens based.
You must have the FA 28-80. The FA 28-105 is better. PZ is has only limited support in DSLRs. Pentax Lens Power Zoom

thanks - I do actually have the FA 28-105 - but it's still got a broken button - I use my equipment hard

PS - it looks rather like the 11-18, with a piece of gaffer tape over the (in this case broken) zoom preset buttons

sorry, what I meant was that my lens looks like the sample 11-18 insofar as it has a but of tape covering a feature on the barrel, not that the feature was a zoom preset button in the case of the 11-18 - I don't know any more than you do what it actually is

It's a convert lens to mirrorless button changing the flange focal distance from 45.46mm to 20mm That way it can be used on Ricoh's soon to be announced mirrorless system without an adapter. Isn't that right @kenspo ?

Much ado about nothing

It is an unfinished lens.
  • There’s nothing inside the distance scale window
  • There’s nothing printed on the gold ring
  • There’s nothing but printing resin under the bump on the barrel
  • There’s nothing but a shadow near the rear cap

It may be small pol and ND built-in filters that are turned electrically.

@DINO Perhaps they're photos of different design studies / prototypes. It's a mystery why they would cover the aperture window in one photo and not another.

It's a pre-production model that still has the Tokina markings for a lens introduced more than five years ago. That should help with the LBA concerns.

I don’t care what it looks in pre-production model. I must acquire this bad boy. I think it is a nice looking lens and expect its photos to be even better!

I wonder how heavy this thing is going to be. It seems smaller than the 15-30, so it's probably lighter, but the 15-30 is a brick so that's not saying much.

The Sigma 10-20 4-5.6 was a bulky lens but it was surprisingly light, so hopefully this new lens is closer to that, though that seems doubtful since it's an f2.8.

Oh well, the way I see it, the 11-18 will save me from carrying around a da15 and the SamBoRokiTar 10mm.

Finally, something in the Pentax lineup to get really excited about. Unless it's something absurd like $1500, I'll probably buy it on day 1.
